Job Title: Process Engineer
Job Description
The Process Engineer supports and leads daily production line activities and continuous improvement initiatives within a fabrication and machining environment. This role serves as a subject matter expert for the assigned manufacturing area, making informed decisions to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency across all processes. The Process Engineer evaluates existing processes, materials, and equipment, manages the introduction of new equipment and products, and drives improvements through data-driven analysis and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Support and lead daily line support activities to maintain safe, high-quality, and efficient manufacturing operations.
- Act as a specialist for the assigned production area and make timely decisions that ensure safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
- Evaluate current processes, materials, and equipment to ensure alignment and compatibility with the facility's operating philosophy.
- Manage new equipment implementation by performing justification calculations, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring compatibility with existing facilities and processes.
- Develop and provide cost estimates for new products to support budgeting and planning activities.
- Collaborate with new product development teams to ensure new concepts are compatible with existing equipment and manufacturing capabilities.
- Build strong internal relationships and promote ongoing communication with other sites and cross-functional teams.
- Manage efficiency and quality metrics for the assigned area, monitoring performance and taking immediate corrective actions when metrics deviate from targets.
- Lead large cross-functional project teams to drive process improvements, equipment integration, and other strategic initiatives.
- Create and modify routings and bills of materials to accurately reflect manufacturing processes and requirements.
- Program production equipment in the assigned area, including press brakes, lasers, mills, lathes, rotomold equipment, and robotic welders.
- Apply lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies to reduce waste, improve throughput, and enhance product quality.
- Use CAD/CAM tools and MS Office applications to document processes, analyze data, and support engineering decisions.
- Ensure that all process changes and equipment modifications are documented and communicated effectively to relevant stakeholders.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution, preferably in Manufacturing or a related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in production or industrial engineering, preferably within a metal fabrication environment such as sheet metal, welding, machine shop, paint, or rotomold operations.
- At least 2 years of demonstrated ability to execute projects to established timelines.
- Experience in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing methodologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CAD/CAM software and assembly processes.
- Proficiency with MS Office applications for data analysis, reporting, and documentation.
- Lathe machining experience in a production or fabrication setting.
- Proven ability to program production equipment such as press brakes, lasers, mills, lathes, rotomold equipment, and robotic welders.
- Strong track record of innovation, ingenuity, and creativity in solving engineering and process challenges.
- High attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership, integrity, and accountability.
- Willingness to seek out and take on new challenges within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- History in metal fabrication environments, including sheet metal, welding, machine shop, paint, or rotomold operations.
- Hands-on experience with machining processes and programming CNC equipment.
- Experience working on cross-functional project teams within a manufacturing organization.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and translate them into routings and bills of materials.
- Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with vendors, engineering teams, and production personnel.
- Comfort with evaluating capital equipment investments and preparing justification calculations.
- Experience using Mastercam or similar CAD/CAM tools is highly beneficial.
Work Environment
The role is based in a fabrication and machining environment that involves hands-on interaction with production equipment such as press brakes, lasers, mills, lathes, rotomold equipment, and robotic welders. The Process Engineer works closely with operators, technicians, and cross-functional teams on the shop floor to support machining, programming, and continuous improvement activities. The position follows a 4-day workweek with 10-hour shifts and flexible scheduling, providing a balanced structure while maintaining strong production support. The environment emphasizes safety, collaboration, and ongoing process optimization, with regular use of CAD/CAM tools and office software to complement on-floor responsibilities.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr.
