Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer - Avionics Hardware and Wire Harnesses
Job Description
This role focuses on building advanced rocket avionics systems that support both current missions and future innovations. As an Avionics Production Specialist, you will play a key role in executing Surface Mount Technology (SMT) and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing operations for cutting-edge flight hardware. You will work closely with engineering and production teams to deliver high-reliability electronics used in complex aerospace systems, supporting rapid development cycles while maintaining strict quality and workmanship standards.
Key Responsibilities
Execute SMT and PCBA manufacturing operations for avionics development and production hardware
Operate and support SMT equipment including:
Solder paste printers
Pick-and-place machines
Reflow ovens
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) systems
Flying probe test equipment
Program, troubleshoot, and optimize SMT line processes for both prototype and production builds
Perform hands-on assembly, soldering, rework, and inspection of electronic components, including surface mount and through-hole parts
Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, bills of materials (BOMs), and work instructions
Identify and resolve assembly defects, process issues, and manufacturing challenges
Serve as a technical resource on the production floor, supporting workflow improvements and build quality
Collaborate with manufacturing, design, and quality teams to solve assembly challenges and improve processes
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with high-reliability manufacturing standards
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
5+ years of experience in SMT manufacturing, electronics assembly, or high-reliability PCBA production
Hands-on experience with SMT production equipment (pick-and-place, printers, AOI, reflow ovens, etc.)
Experience programming and supporting pick-and-place operations
Strong soldering and PCBA rework skills, including component removal and replacement
Solid understanding of:
PCB assembly processes
Component handling
ESD controls
High-reliability workmanship standards
Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and schematics
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- IPC certifications (PC-A-610, J-STD-001, IPC-7711/7721), current or expired
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability manufacturing environments
- Familiarity with MES/ERP systems and digital manufacturing workflows
- Experience supporting both NPI (New Product Introduction) and production environments
- Knowledge of:
- Selective soldering
- Conformal coating
- X-ray inspection processes

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Long Beach, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $67.00/hr.
