Design Engineer - Building Automation Systems (BAS) Location: Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Texas Employment Type: Full-Time Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented and technically skilled Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of Building Automation Systems (BAS) projects across the Dallas-Fort Worth region. This role is responsible for developing system designs, preparing submittals, and supporting project execution for smart building and controls solutions. The ideal candidate has strong HVAC controls knowledge, BAS system design experience, and the ability to collaborate across engineering, project management, and field teams . Key Responsibilities Engineering & System Design Design building automation and control systems for commercial and industrial facilities, including HVAC, lighting, and energy management systems. Develop control schematics, wiring diagrams, network architecture, and sequence of operations. Perform load calculations, system sizing, and equipment selection as needed. Create detailed engineering submittals, including drawings, bill of materials, and specifications. Project Support Collaborate with project managers to ensure designs meet project scope, budget, and timelines. Support installation and commissioning teams with technical guidance and troubleshooting. Review project documentation, specifications, and drawings to ensure compliance with design intent. Participate in project meetings, both internal and client-facing. Standards & Compliance Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and local regulations in Texas (including DFW jurisdictions). Follow company engineering standards and best practices. Maintain proper documentation and revision control. Client & Stakeholder Collaboration Work closely with customers, consulting engineers, contractors, and internal teams. Assist with responding to RFIs (Requests for Information) and design clarifications. Support value engineering efforts to optimize cost and system performance. Continuous Improvement Stay up to date with emerging BAS technologies, IoT integration, and smart building trends. Contribute to process improvements and design standardization initiatives. Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience). 2-5+ years of experience in Building Automation Systems (BAS) , HVAC controls, or related field. Proficiency in reading and developing technical drawings, schematics, and control diagrams. Experience with at least one major BAS platform (e.g., Tridium/Niagara, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell). Understanding of HVAC systems, sequences of operation, and control strategies. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Preferred Experience working on commercial construction or retrofit projects in the DFW area. Familiarity with AutoCAD or similar design software. Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, and other communication protocols. Experience with energy-efficient system design or green building standards (LEED, etc.). Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or Professional Engineer (PE) track.
