Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer Location: Chicago Department: Engineering / Technology Solutions Position Overview We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Audio Visual (AV) Design Engineer to join our team. This role is responsible for designing, specifying, and supporting integrated audiovisual systems for a variety of commercial and institutional projects. The ideal candidate will combine technical expertise with creative problem-solving to deliver high-quality AV solutions that meet client needs and industry standards. Key Responsibilities Design and develop AV systems for projects including corporate offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and large-scale venues Translate client requirements into detailed system designs, including schematics, signal flow diagrams, and equipment specifications Generate complete design documentation using AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools Collaborate with sales, project management, and installation teams to ensure seamless project delivery Specify AV equipment such as displays, projection systems, audio systems, control systems, and networked AV solutions Perform system calculations including acoustics, sightlines, and signal distribution Review and validate technical drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards Support commissioning and troubleshooting of AV systems as needed Stay current with emerging AV technologies and industry best practices Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and presentations Qualifications Required Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Audio Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience) 3+ years of experience in AV system design or a similar technical role Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit for AV system design Strong understanding of AV technologies, including audio DSP systems, video distribution, control systems, and networking fundamentals Familiarity with major AV manufacturers (e.g., Crestron, Extron, QSC, Biamp, Shure) Ability to read and interpret architectural and electrical drawings Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Preferred CTS-D (Certified Technology Specialist - Design) certification or equivalent Experience with AV over IP technologies Knowledge of acoustical modeling and simulation tools Experience with unified communications platforms (e.g., Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms) Key Competencies Attention to detail and accuracy in technical design Strong communication and collaboration skills Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines Customer-focused mindset Innovative and solutions-oriented thinking Work Environment & Expectations Hybrid office and project site work depending on project requirements Occasional travel to client sites may be required Collaboration with cross-functional teams across engineering, sales, and operations Get job alerts Share Copied to clipboard Related roles Low-Voltage AV Tech USA USD 80000 - USD 140000 Jobs
