JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

The Electronics Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains Company vessel's electronic systems. This electronic equipment includes but not limited to radars, gyros, radios, DP system, GMDSS, AISS, GPS, LRIT, CyScan, Fanbeam, InmarsatC, PLC's, VFDs, Propulsion Control systems, and vessel monitoring systems.

SCOPE OF DUTIES

The duties of the Electronics Technician shall include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:

  • Troubleshoots and repairs vessel electronic systems using detailed electronic systems understanding.
  • Identifies parts that need to be replaced, opens work orders, issues purchase orders, and places orders for parts or repair services as necessary.
  • Interprets technical drawings, electrical schematics, and other technical documents to determine appropriate repair parts and procedures. Operates and inspects completed work to determine repair success.
  • Executes all tasks with all prescribed safety equipment in place and on person using applicable OSHA rules.
  • Creates and understands Job Safety Analysis (JSA) actions for each job performed internally as well as by vendors or vessel crew.
  • Works with Lead Electronic Technician to safely repair and maintain vessel electronic equipment at peak performance for maximum availability and efficiency.
  • Works with Operations Managers and vessel crews to schedule troubleshooting and repair of electronic equipment.
  • Works with vendors on contract work to verify repair is complete and to company's satisfaction if required.
  • Coordinates all aspects of the job that is assigned by the Lead Electronic Technician. This includes procuring parts, appropriate tools, equipment, and supplies required for troubleshooting and repairing the vessel electronic equipment.
  • Instructs vessel crews on basic troubleshooting and repair procedures needed to identify and repair problems if needed.
  • All other duties as assigned by management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: Five (5) years of electronic repair related experience or training.

Skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, including "Windows" operating systems, Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrates efficient job planning and time scheduling.
  • Ability to get along well with others.

Licenses/Certifications: Must possess a valid US driver's license, insurance, and TWIC card. Must be possess or obtain a passport for international travel and must be willing to travel internationally. Must possess or be capable of obtaining a FCC GROL license with radar endorsement. Must possess or be able to obtain a GMDSS Maintainer License.

Must be willing to board and ride vessels to increase understanding of how this role supports our business.

DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Eyesight: Functional, correctable to 20/20

Hearing: Functional, correctable to normal to perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction; Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make the discriminations in sound.

Speech: Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word.

Mobility: Unencumbered by physical limitations to perform vessel survey and inspection duties, including walking, climbing, crawling, lifting up to 50 lbs., pulling, reaching and vehicle driving (automatic and manual vehicles).

HOURS OF WORK

Standard office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am until 5:00pm and may be adjusted with approval by the department supervisor. Some overtime, work related travel and weekend work may be required, subject to company operational requirements. Regular and reliable attendance is required. Rotational call duty is likely.

Note: Rotation schedule may vary and is subject to change based on vessel requirements.
