Client Job Title: Staff Engineering Technician-Overhead Transmission Location: Ann Arbor, Houston, Orlando, Overland Park, Raleigh, Tualatin, Contract: 6 months This opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting grid projects such as overhead transmission lines while helping build critical infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support advanced industrial and commercial facilities. The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using industry-standard design tools such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and PLS-CADD. This role may also provide technical guidance and direction to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. Skills: Must have overhead transmission design experience. PLS-CADD experience is a plus. Key Responsibilities: Function in a project engineering technician capacity Support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables under general direction Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to develop moderately complex design concepts and solutions Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation and drawings Provide technical guidance and direction to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control processes, applicable codes, and company policies and procedures Review project requirements to determine the appropriate format and content of deliverables Proactively apply quality program standards, ensuring accuracy and supporting continuous improvement efforts Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with applicable codes and standards Perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and estimates Review the work of others and provide feedback as needed Assist in defining work assignments and maintaining schedules Coordinate with other design team members to support project development Support field activities as needed Stay current with emerging technologies and processes and share knowledge with the team Apply sound judgment in evaluating inputs and making decisions related to deliverables Education & Experience: Diploma or certificate required; Associate degree in Drafting or Engineering Design Technology preferred Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of related work experience
