This position supports the development of mechanical engineering solutions that improve facility safety, efficiency, and long-term performance. As a Mechanical Engineer Consultant, you will perform the following duties:

  • Design Guidance: Develop plumbing and fire protection design work that follow codes and industry requirements
  • Project Review: Examine design documents and provide technical direction to ensure quality and compliance
  • System Analysis: Evaluate mechanical systems and recommend improvements to support facility goals
  • Construction Support: Assist with inspections, respond to contractor questions, and help resolve field issues
  • Energy Planning: Support energy initiatives by analyzing building performance and recommending efficiency measures
  • Operations and Maintenance Support: Advise facility staff on maintenance practices that extend system service life and reduce costs

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 45-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 5 days out of a 10-day work period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Annville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Two years as a Mechanical Engineer 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system.

Special Requirements:

  • You must be in p ossession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
  • You must be in possession of a valid drivers license.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires four years or more of experience using AutoCAD, REVIT, or similar Computer Aided Drafting software.
  • This particular position also requires:
    • Four years or more of professional experience in designing (e.g., calculations, drawings, and specifications) hydronic piping heating/cooling systems (e.g., boilers, chillers, circulating pumps, valves, radiators, fan coil units, radiant floor tubing systems, or duct distribution systems similar to variable air volume (VAV) systems or constant volume systems); or
    • Four years or more of professional experience in designing (e.g., calculations, drawings, and specifications) plumbing systems (e.g., interior/exterior potable water supply systems, restroom facilities, oil-water separators, kitchen equipment, facility water filtration systems, or interior/exterior sanitary sewer systems).

  • You must possess a valid federal or state-issued photo ID and pass a favorable NCIC screening for admittance to Fort Indiantown Gap.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Legal Requirements:

  • You must pass a background investigation.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
