Primary Responsibilities

St. Lawrence University invites applications for the Nature Up North Project Manager position, who will support the Nature Up North Project and collaborate with the Center for the Environment. The Project Manager is responsible for a broad range of functions necessary to further the aims of Nature Up North (NUN), an education and outreach initiative that works with St. Lawrence students and faculty to further hands-on and online environmental education opportunities in the North Country region of New York State. Further, the Project Manager will assist in supervising undergraduate interns working for the St. Lawrence University Center for the Environment (CFE).

This is a full time, 40 hours/week position and includes health benefits. The Project Manager position is for a term of 12 months beginning on Monday, August 3, 2026, with the possibility of renewal pending funding availability.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Provide administrative support to the Nature Up North Project Director.

Supervise academic-year undergraduate student interns working for both NUN and the CFE in developing environmental education programs and online content for NUN as well as working on sustainability initiatives for the CFE.

Supervise summer undergraduate naturalist interns in developing and delivering in person environmental education programs and in developing online content during the summer.

Collaborate with Project Director and CFE Executive Director to help build synergies between NUN and CFE programs and initiatives.

Assist Project Director and Computer Science faculty in overseeing development of computer science projects for undergraduate student interns and in supervision of computer science interns.

Develop and lead environmental education programs for the public, including interpretive hikes, paddles, campfires, environmental stewardship activities, and other programs.

Lead environmental education programming at several local K-12 schools and youth programs, and with Project Director, lead teacher professional development workshops and design place-based environmental education curricula for Northern New York K-12 schools.

Design protocols, develop the online user interface, recruit participants, support field data collection, and analyze data for Nature Up North citizen science projects.

Manage Nature Up North's presence on social media platforms.

Manage and moderate student and user-generated content on natureupnorth.org and social media platforms.

Create digital content for Nature Up North including blogs and podcasts for the Nature Up North website, a monthly newsletter, and more as the need arises.

Assist CFE executive director and CFE communication intern in creating content for CFE newsletter and website.

Monitor the Nature Up North website for updates and work with the web team to implement changes and improve user experience and functionality.

Support the effective marketing of NUN events through press releases and event calendars.

Assist Project Director in grant writing for project development and write reports on project activities for granting agencies.

Coordinate with project partners (e.g. community organizations, schools) to co-develop environmental education programs.

Collaborate with St. Lawrence University faculty to support environmental components of their courses (e.g., lead a class of History students on a hike related to rivers).

Collaborate with St. Lawrence University faculty to engage St. Lawrence University students in generating written, photo, audio, and video content for natureupnorth.org.

Perform other tasks assigned by the Project Director .

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university

Proficiency with computers (Microsoft Office Suite) and multiple social media platforms

Willingness to adopt and use social media as part of position

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Ability to interact with groups/comfort with public speaking

Availability and willingness to occasionally work evening and/or weekends

Previous experience in outdoor and/or environmental education

Physical condition that allows leading of hikes and other nature based-outings

Current driver's license, willingness to be van-certified, and willingness to drive University vehicles

Preferred Qualifications

Field research experience in environmental science

At least 1 year post-college experience as an environmental educator

Familiarity with the flora, fauna, and natural areas in northern New York including the St. Lawrence River Valley and northern Adirondacks

Willingness to build collaborations across university academic and student life programs.

National Association of Interpretation Certified Interpretive Guide

Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, InDesign, Premiere, Illustrator)

Experience with the R statistical programming environment

Familiarity with use of GPS and GIS technology

Experience with website development and web and social media content management

Familiarity with podcasting and videography equipment and techniques

Demonstrated experience managing projects related to environmental education, youth development, and/or conservation

Demonstrated experience collaborating among community organizations.

Salary$20 - $21 per hour
