What you'll do:

SUMMARY:

The Application Engineer position is responsible for acting as the technical interface between the business units and engineering, generating new business opportunities through development of new products, supporting field issues, and driving resolutions, as well as coordinating engineering resources to support on-going activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with external customers, with the goal of providing technical and business solutions for all stakeholders, while ensuring satisfaction through all stages of the process

  • Act as the key technical advisor and product advocate for the business unit

  • Evaluate and translate customer requirements into functional and technical elements that can be used to drive technical specifications for new product development or product optimization

  • Act as technical advisor and product advocate for business unit

  • Support competitive benchmarking activities (product and manufacturers), in order to provide guidance/insight to business units for strategic planning

  • Prepare and deliver formal technical presentations to the sales department, external customers (new and existing), or other stakeholders, as appropriate

  • Resolve customer issues in a timely manner that is consistent with the company mission, values, and strategic objectives

  • Support sales and marketing activities through attendance of industry trade shows, conferences, and internal sales and training events

  • Maintain existing customers, while working to establish new customers through partnerships with sales and a focus on conquest opportunities

  • Assist in the design and development process to ensure customer requirements and business unit objectives are captured, with a goal to meet or exceed expectations

  • Travel regularly to key end-user customers and OEMs to ensure successful product launches, support integration opportunities, and provide training when appropriate

  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records for key customers, quotes, project requests, contacts, and correspondence

  • Ensure application of design practices and procedures supportive of INCOSE (International Council on Systems Engineering) guidelines

  • Support Systems Engineering team with the development and implementation of appropriate group tools and processes

  • Solve complex problems with minimal assistance

  • Other duties as assigned

What you need to be successful:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience working in an engineering or technical field
  • Experience related to the design and development of on-highway, heavy truck, specialty, or automotive vehicles preferred
  • Possess a Class B CDL, or be willing to obtain
  • Self-motivated, with ability to work independently, with minimal direct supervision
  • Comfortable with both analytical and "hands-on" application of technical skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Working knowledge of SolidWorks 3-D CAD with ability to review and modify assemblies, models, and detail drawings
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems, with the ability to pull data as needed for analysis (e.g. costs, usage, supplier, volumes)
