Job Description

The Integration Engineer supports the integration, validation, and commissioning of energy storage systems by configuring and testing project-based software, industrial communications, and field assets. This role focuses on verifying system functionality, safety, and reliability through structured testing, hardware-in-the-loop environments, and close collaboration with cross-functional teams. The Integration Engineer contributes to project design, system integration, and deployment activities while leveraging AI-driven tools and modern networking practices.

Responsibilities

  • Support the integration and validation of energy storage project-based software configurations against customer and project requirements.
  • Assist in configuring and troubleshooting industrial communications, including Modbus (TCP/RTU), DNP3, and related network infrastructure for energy storage systems.
  • Develop and execute structured test plans to verify system functionality, safety, and reliability.
  • Validate integrated software features within automated test platforms and hardware-in-the-loop environments.
  • Support project design engineering, system integration, execution, and commissioning activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams to support integration activities.
  • Assist with configuration and validation of field assets such as batteries, power converters, meters, and protective relays.
  • Utilize electrical test equipment to support system verification, diagnostics, and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Collaborate effectively within a fast-paced, cross-functional team to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Assist software teams with integration-related development efforts, including configuration tooling, automation enhancements, and deployment support.
  • Apply AI-driven tools and workflows to streamline integration processes, automate repetitive tasks, and improve overall performance.
  • Support field commissioning and testing activities as needed, ensuring integrated systems operate as designed.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Foundational understanding of three-phase power system principles, including voltage and frequency behavior and grid stability concepts.
  • Basic knowledge of TCP/IP networking, including LAN/WAN configuration and cybersecurity best practices.
  • Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Modbus (TCP/RTU) and DNP3.
  • Ability to configure, analyze, and troubleshoot communication issues across TCP/IP-based networks.
  • Ability to utilize AI-driven tools and workflows to streamline processes, automate tasks, and enhance system performance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think independently in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical single-line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams.
  • Ability to use electrical test equipment to support system verification and troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to support field commissioning and testing activities as needed.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills for working within cross-functional teams.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working with energy storage systems or other power systems environments.
  • Exposure to automated test platforms and hardware-in-the-loop testing environments.
  • Familiarity with Python or similar scripting languages for automation, testing, or tooling support.
  • Understanding of voltage behavior in power systems and its impact on system performance and safety.
  • Interest in continuous learning and applying new tools, including AI-driven solutions, to improve integration workflows.
  • Ability to contribute to configuration tooling and automation enhancements in collaboration with software teams.
Work Environment

The Integration Engineer works in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment focused on delivering reliable and high-performing energy storage solutions. The role involves a mix of office-based and field-based activities, including working with automated test platforms, hardware-in-the-loop systems, and industrial communication networks such as TCP/IP, Modbus, and DNP3. The position requires regular interaction with electrical single-line diagrams, mechanical drawings, and network diagrams, as well as hands-on use of electrical test equipment to verify and troubleshoot systems. Occasional support for field commissioning and testing activities is expected, providing exposure to real-world installations and operational conditions. The environment encourages collaboration, independent problem solving, and the use of AI-driven tools to streamline workflows and enhance overall performance.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Durham, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
