Job Description: S r, Controls/Electrical Engineer

The Sr. Controls/Electrical Engineer will apply advanced electrical design expertise to develop, document, and support industrial control systems from concept through manufacturing. This role designs and programs PLC and HMI systems, creates and updates AutoCAD electrical drawings, and provides ongoing technical support to internal teams and customers. The engineer collaborates closely with sales, production, field service, suppliers, and end users to ensure reliable, high-quality control solutions and will also mentor other Controls Engineers on the team.

Responsibilities

  • Document electrical and controls designs using the appropriate formats and standards required by the company and customers.
  • Provide technical expertise in electrical and electronic engineering, with a focus on hardware and embedded system firmware design for consumer and commercial products.
  • Develop and maintain electrical and electronic engineering design documentation and provide ongoing support for these designs.
  • Plan, process, and perform development project testing to validate designs and ensure performance and reliability.
  • Work collaboratively with sales, design, production, field service support, suppliers, and end customers throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Coordinate and manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, quality, and deliverables are met.
  • Support production and field service teams by accurately and promptly troubleshooting production and field issues related to electrical controls and systems.
  • Accompany sales personnel to customer sites to conduct field measurements and attend customer meetings as needed.
  • Guide and serve as a technical resource for other Controls Engineers in the development and execution of assigned projects.
  • Actively train Controls Engineers on control programs and systems, helping them maintain and further develop their technical knowledge and skills.
  • Fully support and adhere to the companys ISO objectives, policies, and procedures in all engineering activities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or an equivalent discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience programming Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
  • Experience selecting and configuring Siemens variable frequency drives (VFDs).
  • Ability to create and modify AutoCAD electrical drawings for industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency in reading, designing, and troubleshooting electrical schematic diagrams.
  • Understanding of printed circuit boards (PCB), electrical systems, and firmware.
  • Experience with electronics and embedded systems production-level design.
  • Hands-on experience using, programming, and troubleshooting common industrial sensors and controls.
  • Ability to use and troubleshoot with common test equipment, including multimeters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with customers and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Strong attention to detail in design, documentation, and troubleshooting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • 13 years of experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Experience working within ISO-based quality systems is beneficial.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and train other engineers on control programs and systems.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with sales, production, field service, suppliers, and customers.
Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Cary, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $80000.00 - $115000.00/yr.
