CTG is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer III to support automation and capital expansion projects within a high-volume manufacturing environment. This role is ideal for a seasoned controls professional with strong Rockwell automation experience who enjoys hands-on equipment support, startup activities, and solving complex technical challenges.
The Controls Engineer III will lead controls engineering efforts from concept through commissioning, supporting the design, integration, installation, and startup of advanced manufacturing systems.

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or other related technical field required.
Key Responsibilities- Lead controls engineering activities for automation and capital projects
- Design and implement PLC, HMI, SCADA, and machine control systems
- Develop control architectures, integration strategies, and functional specifications
- Support equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting
- Review electrical schematics, panel layouts, network architecture, and controls documentation
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, operations, facilities, and IT teams
- Provide technical oversight to system integrators, contractors, and machine builders
- Troubleshoot controls, networking, and automation issues in manufacturing environments
- Support operator training and system handoff activities
- Travel to manufacturing facilities in Hickory and Wilmington, NC, as needed
- 7+ years of controls engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial automation
- Strong experience with Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems
- Experience with FactoryTalk View, Optix, and Ignition platforms
- Knowledge of PID control implementation and industrial process control
- Experience with ladder logic, function blocks, structured text, and IEC programming
- Familiarity with AutoCAD and/or AutoCAD Electrical
- Understanding of electrical schematics, panel design, and industrial networking
- Experience with Ethernet/IP and EtherCAT communication protocols
- Knowledge of machine safety design principles per ISO 13849-1 & 2
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and project execution skills
