Structural Engineer

  • Seattle, Washington
  • Full Time
Mid-Level Structural Engineer
Job Description

This mid-level Structural Engineer role (approximately 46 years of experience) focuses on building design and offers the opportunity to move beyond task-based assignments into greater ownership of structural design. You will work primarily with steel and concrete structural systems, perform structural analysis, and contribute to seismic design for a variety of commercial, workplace, and aviation interior projects. The position sits within a collaborative, design-driven studio where engineers work closely with architects and in-house MEP and lighting teams, gaining exposure to full building systems and diverse, impactful projects.

Responsibilities

  • Independently develop structural designs for building projects, with a focus on steel and concrete structural systems.
  • Perform structural analysis using tools such as ETABS, SAFE, and SAP2000, referencing applicable building codes and standards.
  • Apply seismic design principles to building projects, including work in seismically active regions.
  • Work with architects and in-house MEP and lighting teams to produce integrated, coordinated building designs.
  • Participate in the design and documentation of commercial, workplace, and aviation interior projects, as well as other building types as needed.
  • Review and interpret architectural and engineering drawings to develop efficient structural solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to cross-functional teams including architects, engineers, and project managers.
  • Manage and prioritize 24 concurrent projects or tasks while maintaining organization, quality, and deadlines.
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary design discussions, offering structural input that improves overall building performance.
  • Collaborate with BIM specialists and other engineering team members to ensure accurate and coordinated models and documentation.
  • Support a growing structural engineering team by sharing knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned.
  • Engage with project teams across different offices to support regional and global client projects.
Essential Skills
  • Approximately 46 years of structural engineering experience, with a target profile around 5 years.
  • Strong experience designing with steel and concrete structural systems.
  • Solid structural analysis background, including hands-on use of ETABS, SAFE, and SAP2000.
  • Ability to work autonomously, reference relevant building codes, and run structural analyses without heavy oversight.
  • Exposure to seismic design, ideally with experience in West Coast or other high-seismic regions.
  • Proficiency with Revit for structural modeling and coordination.
  • Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering, with seismic coursework preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to architects, engineers, and project managers.
  • Proven ability to manage 24 projects or tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams to achieve project goals and timelines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in a design-driven environment with close collaboration between architecture and engineering.
  • Familiarity with Bentley software as a plus.
  • background in commercial, workplace, or aviation interior projects is beneficial.
  • Interest in taking on increasing levels of design ownership and responsibility.
  • Ability to contribute effectively within a regional engineering structure that includes practice leaders and cross-office collaboration.
  • Comfort working with BIM specialists and integrating structural models into broader building systems.
  • Motivation to grow within a supportive studio environment with strong leadership and diverse design challenges.
Work Environment

The role is based in a collaborative, design-focused studio that serves as a regional hub for engineering, including structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and lighting disciplines. Engineers work directly with in-house MEP and lighting teams and are closely integrated with architects, leading to stronger, more holistic building designs and exposure to full building systems rather than isolated structural scope. The position follows a hybrid work schedule, with three days in the office and the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays. You will work on Seattle and global client projects as part of a broader regional engineering team, including structural team members in multiple offices. The environment emphasizes open communication, cross-discipline collaboration, and long-term project opportunities across a diverse range of project types. Standard professional office attire is appropriate in this setting, and you will use industry-standard design and analysis tools such as ETABS, SAFE, SAP2000, Revit, and potentially Bentley software.
