We are seeking a "Electrical Design Engineer."
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented " Electrical Design Engineer" to join an engineering team specializing in industrial control systems, material handling, and automation applications. In this role, you will be responsible for the complete electrical design scope of control system projects from concept development and schematic creation to panel design, component selection, and project documentation.
The ideal candidate will possess strong expertise in AutoCAD Electrical, industrial control system design, and electrical documentation standards, with a commitment to producing accurate, code-compliant engineering deliverables.
Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Schematic Design
- Develop complete electrical design packages including power distribution one-line diagrams, motor control schematics, I/O wiring diagrams, control panel layouts, and field device wiring details using AutoCAD Electrical.
- Design control panel layouts and enclosure configurations in compliance with UL 508A, NEC (NFPA 70), and NFPA 79 standards.
- Produce accurate and thoroughly verified schematics and panel drawings for fabrication and field installation.
- Maintain drawing numbering systems, revision control, and project drawing registers.
Component Selection & Bill of Materials (BOM) Development
- Size and select electrical components including PLCs, VFDs, motor starters, safety relays, circuit protection devices, sensors, and field instrumentation.
- Develop detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) for control panels and field devices.
- Coordinate with purchasing teams regarding procurement, component substitutions, and lead-time considerations.
- Review vendor submittals and evaluate alternate components against project requirements.
Control Panel Design
- Develop complete control panel layouts including DIN rail arrangements, wire routing, terminal block assignments, and enclosure sizing.
- Produce UL 508A-compliant panel design packages suitable for fabrication.
- Define cable schedules, conduit layouts, junction box arrangements, and interconnect wiring documentation.
Network & System Architecture Design
- Design industrial network architectures, including EtherNet/IP topologies, Device Level Ring (DLR) configurations, and managed switch layouts.
- Produce network topology drawings and device addressing documentation.
Project Support & Documentation
- Serve as the electrical design lead on assigned projects and coordinate with project managers, mechanical engineers, and other stakeholders.
- Participate in design reviews, project kickoff meetings, and engineering review sessions.
- Support fabrication and installation teams by responding to technical questions and issuing design clarifications.
- Develop and maintain as-built drawing packages upon project completion.
- Create Description of Operation (DOO) documents to support programming and commissioning activities.
- Manage engineering change orders, drawing revisions, and design updates.
Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Maintain and improve internal electrical design standards, schematic templates, component libraries, and documentation practices.
- Identify opportunities to improve design efficiency, reduce material costs, and enhance drawing quality.
- Stay current with applicable industry codes, standards, and best practices.
Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology (BSEET), or a related field. Equivalent professional experience may be considered.
- 3 7 years of experience in electrical design for industrial automation, controls, or material handling systems.
- Expert-level proficiency with AutoCAD Electrical, including schematic development, panel layouts, BOM generation, and project management.
- Strong understanding of low-voltage power distribution, motor control systems, and field device wiring.
- Knowledge of UL 508A, NEC (NFPA 70), and industrial control panel standards.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and existing electrical schematics.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and design packages.

- Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation hardware, including ControlLogix and CompactLogix platforms.
- Knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) selection and integration.
- Experience with industrial safety system design, including safety relays, light curtains, and emergency stop circuits.
- Familiarity with EtherNet/IP DLR ring topology and managed industrial networking equipment.
- Experience producing UL 508A panel design packages for fabrication shops.
- Experience using Autodesk Vault for document management and revision control.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or active pursuit of licensure is a plus.
