Power Systems Electrical Engineer

Position Overview

A leading provider of turnkey Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions is seeking a Power Systems Electrical Engineer to support the design, testing, commissioning, and ongoing support of commercial and utility-scale energy storage and microgrid projects. The company develops and delivers advanced energy storage solutions ranging from approximately 125 kW to 50 MW, including system controls, monitoring platforms, and integrated microgrid solutions.

The successful candidate will play a key role in developing microgrid system architectures and supporting the integration of energy storage systems, solar PV, generators, transformers, and related electrical infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle, from design and engineering through commissioning and operational support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop microgrid and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) architectures.
  • Create and review electrical single-line and three-line diagrams for system design and implementation.
  • Support system design, testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and field deployment activities.
  • Evaluate and specify electrical equipment including batteries, inverters, transformers, switchgear, generators, and protection systems.
  • Perform electrical distribution system analysis, including equipment sizing and coordination.
  • Assist with fault current studies, grounding system design, and electrical protection schemes.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable National Electrical Code (NEC), IEEE standards, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including software, controls, manufacturing, and field service personnel.
  • Support customer installations and provide technical assistance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Participate in system documentation, technical reports, and engineering reviews.
  • Contribute to communication architecture and networking design efforts when applicable.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in power systems, electrical distribution, renewable energy, microgrids, or energy storage systems.
  • Strong understanding of electrical power distribution systems.
  • Knowledge of low- and medium-voltage equipment, transformers, switchgear, grounding systems, and protection controls.
  • Familiarity with NEC requirements and applicable IEEE standards.
  • Ability to interpret and create electrical schematics and power system drawings.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AutoCAD.
  • Experience using power system analysis software such as SKM, ETAP, or EasyPower.
  • Understanding of industrial networking and communication protocols.
  • Experience with renewable energy systems, microgrids, or Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to coordinate multiple engineering activities and meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% as required for project support, commissioning, and customer engagements.
