Job Details:

We are seeking an experienced and innovative Mechanical Engineer to join our engineering team and lead the design and development of advanced electro-mechanical laboratory testing equipment used in geotechnical and soil mechanics applications.

In this role, you will be responsible for the complete product development lifecycle-from concept generation and detailed design through prototyping, testing, manufacturing, and product release. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical design expertise with a solid understanding of electrical and control systems integration, enabling the development of robust, reliable, and high-performance testing equipment.

This position offers the opportunity to work on highly specialized instrumentation and automation solutions that support engineering, research, and industrial applications worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of electro-mechanical systems and instrumentation for laboratory soil testing equipment.
  • Develop detailed mechanical designs, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Design mechanical structures, frames, enclosures, front panels, and motion systems, including the selection and specification of motors, gearboxes, actuators, sensors, and related components.
  • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers to integrate sensors, actuators, control systems, and data acquisition hardware into mechanical designs.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, feasibility studies, and design reviews to ensure product performance, reliability, safety, and manufacturability.
  • Build, assemble, and evaluate prototypes, identifying opportunities for design optimization and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation, including drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), specifications, testing procedures, and technical reports.
  • Manage technical interactions with external vendors and manufacturing partners, including sourcing components, reviewing production processes, and ensuring compliance with design specifications.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, and resource requirements to support timely product delivery.
  • Support product validation, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in electro-mechanical design and automation.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing electro-mechanical systems and products.
  • Proficiency with CAD software, preferably SolidWorks, including assembly modeling and detailed drawing creation.
  • Experience designing mechanical structures and integrating motors, sensors, actuators, and motion-control components.
  • Strong understanding of control systems, PID control principles, instrumentation, and electro-mechanical system integration.
  • Experience preparing engineering documentation and supporting manufacturing through external vendors or contract manufacturers.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials selection, tolerance analysis, and cost optimization.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and certifications such as ISO, EN, UL, and related engineering compliance requirements.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and project coordination skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the field of robotics, automated controls, and industrial automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles and ability to collaborate effectively with electrical engineers.
  • Past exposure to soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, geophysics, or related disciplines.
  • FSM, ISR, DAC and ADC interfacing experience.

Benefits Package:

  • Base salary range: $110,000-$120,000 per year

(Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity. The range listed reflects the base salary only and does not include bonus, benefits, or other forms of compensation.)
