We are looking for a talented Head of Design Assurance to build and lead the U.S. Design Assurance function for high-reliability space hardware programs. This role will provide technical assurance leadership across EEE parts, materials and processes, printed circuit board assurance, configuration discipline, reliability and radiation coordination, and customer-facing design assurance. The ideal candidate brings deep experience in aerospace or high-reliability electronics, strong cross-functional leadership, and the practical judgment to build scalable assurance processes without unnecessary bureaucracy.
What you will be doing
- Build and lead the U.S. Design Assurance function supporting space hardware programs from requirements review through design release, procurement, build, test, and delivery.
- Provide functional leadership for EEE parts, materials and processes, printed circuit board assurance, configuration/data discipline, and coordination of radiation and reliability work.
- Establish a right-sized operating model for design assurance, including review cadence, ownership, deliverables, metrics, and escalation paths.
- Partner with Engineering to ensure design choices, parts selection, materials, processes, PCB technologies, and qualification approaches are appropriate for mission requirements.
- Define and maintain practical processes for parts and materials approval, BOM review, screening, declared lists, qualification evidence, customer approvals, and technical risk disposition.
- Coordinate internal and external specialists in radiation hardness assurance, reliability, EEE parts, materials and processes, and PCB technical review.
- Support major program reviews such as PDR, CDR, MRR, TRR, parts control boards, and customer assurance reviews with clear technical status, risks, and closure plans.
- Work closely with Supply Chain, Quality, Program Management, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to support technical flowdown, supplier qualification, source inspection, and issue resolution.
- Develop scalable tools, templates, dashboards, and review artifacts that provide leadership visibility into design assurance health and technical risk.
- Hire, develop, and mentor a small but capable design assurance team as the U.S. organization grows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of aerospace, defense, space, electronics manufacturing, or other high-reliability hardware experience.
- Senior or management-level experience in Product Assurance, Design Assurance, Mission Assurance, EEE Parts engineering, Materials & Processes engineering, Reliability, Configuration Management, or related technical assurance disciplines.
- Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating technical assurance work across parts, materials, processes, PCB technologies, configuration/BOM control, qualification, screening, and customer-facing assurance deliverables.
- Working knowledge of relevant aerospace, defense, and electronics standards such as AS9100, NASA EEE-INST-002, ECSS-Q-ST-60, ECSS-Q-ST-70, MIL-STD-883, MIL-STD-750, IPC-A-600, IPC-6012 Space Addendum, J-STD-001 Space Addendum, or equivalent customer requirements.
- Experience chairing or supporting technical assurance reviews, parts/materials review boards, nonconformance dispositions, and milestone reviews such as PDR, CDR, MRR, or TRR.
- Familiarity with PLM, ERP, BOM, part master, and configuration management workflows in a high-reliability product environment.
- Ability to build practical processes, communicate technical risk clearly, and influence engineering, supply chain, quality, program management, suppliers, and customers.
Advantages
- Direct experience standing up or scaling a Design Assurance, Product Assurance, EEE Parts, Materials & Processes, or technical assurance function in a multi-site aerospace or high-reliability hardware company.
- Background managing teams across EEE parts, M&P, PCB assurance, configuration management, component engineering, or receiving inspection.
- Direct experience with commercial or government space programs, including customer-facing parts, materials, reliability, radiation, or qualification reviews.
- PCB subject matter expertise, including supplier audits, data review, source inspection, and disposition of nonconforming product.
- Experience with GIDEP, ESA alerts, parts obsolescence monitoring, destructive physical analysis, lot acceptance, screening, or upscreening workflows.
- IPC-A-600, IPC-6012 Space Addendum, ASQ CQE/CQA, or comparable certification a plus.
