Senior Vehicle EMC Test Engineer
Must Have Technical/Functional Skills
a Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience in a lab environment (EMC experience preferred, but general
automotive electrical testing is considered).
a EMC Technical Skills: Ability to operate EMC test equipment such as Spectrum Analyzers, Signal Generators,
and Power Meters. Familiar with vehicle EMC test methodologies (ie. Radiated Emissions, onboard emissions,
radiated immunity)
a Vehicle Communication Tools: Proficiency with, CANalyzer or similar tools to interface with the vehicles
electronic control units (ECUs).
a SW Automation: Basic to intermediate ability to write and modify test scripts (ie. Bash, Python or similar)
for automation.
a Vehicle Expertise: Knowledgeable about basic electric vehicle architecture, comfortable working in and
around vehicles, including basic mechanical disassembly to access internal modules, harness modifications,
fuse replacements, charging and reviving LV/HV systems
a Familiarity with automotive EMC standards: ISO, SAE, UNECE-R10
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsible for the hands-on execution of electromagnetic compatibility testing at the vehicle level. This role focuses
on the test planning, physical setup, technical bring-up, and systematic testing of vehicles in both internal and
external laboratory environments.
You will be the technical doer who interfaces with cross functional teams to ensure the vehicle is configured correctly,
test infrastructure tools are running, and data is captured accurately to validate performance against internal
specifications and global standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Vehicle Preparation and Bring-Up
a Communicate well with vehicle program teams to understand timelines and deliverable due dates,
draft test plans and arrange internal team schedules/logistics to meet deadlines
a Physically prepare prototype vehicles for EMC testing, including the installation of fiber optic converters,
current probes, and specialized test harnesses.
a Bring up the vehicle systems: Ensure the vehicle is in the correct state for testing (e.g., HV battery engaged,
communication buses active).
a Collaborate with software teams to flash specific firmware versions and activate test modes required to
exercise vehicle features during lab sessions.
2. Test Execution & Scripting
a Execute test cases for Radiated/Conducted Emissions and Immunity in accordance with the test plan.
a Develop and use scripts (ie. Bash, Python or similar to automate vehicle functions and monitor bus traffic
( CAN/LIN/Ethernet) during testing.
a Maintain detailed logs of vehicle configurations, software versions, and hardware revisions for every test run.
3. Lab Operations & Coordination
a Perform testing in-house and travel to external labs to support vehicle-level validation.
a Work closely with external lab technicians to set up the vehicle on dynamometers or turntables and
ensure tests are performed correctly
a Coordinate the scheduling and logistics of moving vehicles and equipment to various test facilities.
4. Debugging & Reporting
a Conduct initial troubleshooting when a vehicle fails an EMC test; perform module-level swaps or experiments to
identify the failure mode
a Capture and organize raw test data, providing preliminary analysis to identify trends or anomalies.
a Support the design team by verifying the effectiveness of hardware fixes (e.g., adding ferrites or improving
grounding) through quick-look testing.
a Work closely with engineers to drive resolution of EMC test failures through deep dive experiments, including at
module level
5. Additional Responsibilities
a Bring up and maintain in-house test capabilities and setups, including new instrumentation commissioning
and regular calibration
a Occasionally support other team responsibilities as needed: component EMC test/debugging, RF performance
or Low Voltage tests
a Vehicle Simulations: familiarity with vehicle EMC simulation and modelling EMC tests using ANSYS, CST, or similar
Generic Managerial Skills, If any
Very good communication skills (verbal and written)
Education
Bachelors /Masters Degree
