POSITION SPECIFICS We are searching for a Research & Development Engineer to join our Systems Engineering and Rapid Prototyping (SERP) Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State to serve in a strategic role at a customer site in Springfield, VA. This position will be embedded within a government program office, and requires prior DoD/IC experience in technology development and program management. The selected candidate will ultimately be performing inherently governmental functions with significant program management responsibilities. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Provide technical and programmatic oversight to projects and programs, and act as a trusted agent for the government Collaborate with engineers and scientists across the enterprise to develop and deliver technology for mission critical projects and initiatives Lead and/or assist in the development of proposals and projects that meet challenging operational requirements of a diverse stakeholder community Provide project updates to collaborators, stakeholders, and senior-level and executive DoD/IC leadership Additional responsibilities of higher level positions may include: Building partnerships and collaborations across the DoD/IC communities Development of technology roadmaps and execution plans Management of a portfolio of technology development programs Required skills/experience areas include: Experience serving in a research & development engineering role for a DoD/IC technology development program required; experience serving as a program manager or project lead for a DoD/IC technology development program is preferred Broad experience in one or more of the following technology areas; Undersea Vehicles, Autonomous Systems, Sensors (acoustic, EO/IR, Sensors (or other novel phenomenology), Electronic Warfare, Communication systems (acoustic, fiber, RF), Materials Science, Advanced Manufacturing, Systems Engineering Active TS/SCI security clearance with CI or FS polygraph A Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering or Systems Engineering is preferred. Your working location will be fully on-site at a government facility in Springfield, VA. The position requires occasional travel to State College, PA and other locations.
