Mechanical Design Engineer

Location: Johnstown, PA & Blairsville, PA | Full-Time | Direct Hire

Our client, a growing and reputable manufacturer, is seeking a Gear Design Engineer to join their Engineering team. This new role will serve as the gear expert, supporting both facilities and driving high-quality gear production.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and optimize gear manufacturing processes (machining, hobbing, grinding, heat treat)
• Interpret engineering drawings to ensure quality/performance standards
• Select tools, materials, and machines for gear production
• Design fixtures and special tooling
• Lead Lean and continuous improvement initiatives
• Collaborate across design, quality, and production teams
• Support root cause analysis and corrective actions
• Stay current with gear standards (AGMA, ISO) and technologies

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
• 5+ years in high-volume gear manufacturing
• Experience in gear design, metallurgy, and heat treat processes
• Strong knowledge of gear types (spur, helical, bevel) and cutting methods
• Proficiency in CNC, CAD/CAM, and gear design software
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Lean manufacturing knowledge; Black Belt certification is a plus
