Compensation: $60000 - $75000 annually

System Ones Client is a key player in the rail industry based in Hornell, NY, specializing in the design, manufacturing, and overhauling of railcar subsystems. Serving major transit agencies and railcar manufacturers, our Client supports programs ranging from HVAC, electrical panels and other complex rail components. Position Overview:
The Electrical Engineer will assist with engineering and production support activities throughout the product lifecyclefrom program start-up through design, documentation, installation, and performance validation. This role is critical in ensuring seamless coordination between design intent, production feasibility, and customer requirements. Key Responsibilities:
  • Production Support:
  • Assist production teams during program start-up, addressing engineering, drawing, installation, and assembly questions.
  • Make real-time modifications to designs or drawings as needed to support production needs.
  • Design Engineering:
  • Prepare and revise design layouts for mechanical, electrical, and piping systems.
  • Develop and interpret schematics, redlines, assembly drawings, and installation plans in compliance with company drafting standards.
  • Ensure proper fit, tolerance, and assembly of components and systems.
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) & LOM:
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Lists of Materials (LOMs).
  • Support input, updates, and corrections to BOMs as part of engineering change management.
  • Calculations & Documentation:
  • Prepare and review engineering calculations for component selection and performance analysis.
  • Ensure all design calculations comply with documented standards and legal regulations.
  • Collect technical data and vendor documentation for inclusion in engineering design books.
  • Specifications & Standards:
  • Interpret customer specifications and apply them accurately to design work.
  • Prepare and review technical specifications for both established and new product development projects.
  • Select standard hardware and components based on system performance criteria.
  • Testing & Validation:
  • Review test results to ensure compliance with design requirements.
  • Analyze vendor component data and evaluate test outcomes against system specifications.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration:
  • Coordinate designs across engineering functions and support cross-discipline integration.
  • Ensure all deliverables are properly documented, traceable, and production-ready. Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 2+ years of experience in a design/drafting/engineering support role (rail industry preferred).
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and schematics development.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, material selection, and system-level design.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and modify technical drawings and specifications.
  • Detail-oriented with solid documentation and calculation review skills.
  • Familiarity with BOM/LOM creation and ERP or PLM systems is a plus.
