Performs independent utilities technical field and administrative work that may include assignments and responsibility to monitor and oversee different facets of design standards for utility work or related utilities engineering activities; oversees a wide variety of activities, operations, preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for utilities and subsequent permitting for (e.g.) water, sewer and reclaim projects.
This Engineering Technician 2 position is located at: 14 S Ft. Harrison Avenue, Clearwater FL 33756. This position can work from 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Remote work is allowed two days a week as per department guidelines.
What Will You Do?
Executes or assists in the preparation of plans, drawings, and specifications for a variety of utility works, parks, and utilities projects.
Performs or assists in preliminary layouts and drawings, using engineering criteria, survey notes, and basic instructions.
Prepares contract documents and technical specifications and prepares cost and material estimates for public works, parks, and utilities projects.
Prepares utilities applications and auxiliary documents.
Initiates engineering work orders and permits, research's right of way vacating, and provides back up to field personnel as needed.
Performs routine to moderately complex engineering analysis and prepares technical reports.
Reviews construction plans for estimating impact or other necessary fees.
Obtains, analyzes, summarizes, and maintains utilities systems data and records independently under broad guidelines.
Performs records management and research.
Provides backup to counter operations.
May provide information and services to utility system users.
May perform information processing related duties including the use of available statistical packages or programs, encoding data, data entry, and retrieval and routine information terminal operations and programming/reprogramming.
Performs other related job duties as assigned.
What Do You Need?
Experience: Technical experience in civil engineering, construction engineering, utilities related engineering.
Degree: Civil or Construction engineering, Utilities, or related field.
3 years of as described above.
Associates degree and 1 year experience as described above.
Bachelors or higher-level degree a described above.
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Florida Driver's License or Florida Commercial Driver's License and endorsement, if any.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
At least a year of on-the-job utility experience, installing, repairing and maintaining utility services throughout the Pinellas County Utility services areas.
At least two years of Accela experience are required.
The position requires a working knowledge of utility best business practices and count ordinance related to utilities.
