Job Summary:

Mercury Systems is seeking a mechanical engineer II to support the development of new display products from concept to production. It will involve working with TPMs and PMs across BU's and engineering disciplines (optical, manufacturing, electrical and quality) including different time zones and countries. This role will support production and quality as required for current products working quickly solve issues and noncompliance's. There will be many opportunities to tackle IR&D task to support new technology. This mechanical engineer will be a part of a small but diversely experienced team which works closely together supports creative thinking and ingenuity. Our team members make it a personal initiative to deliver high quality work and are very self-motivated individuals who can work autonomously when required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical engineering tasks related to the design and production of ruggedized displays, DVRs, and cockpit management systems for military applications with associated electronic modules and sub-system assembly designs based on military standards
  • Assignments include detailed mechanical packaging design, display backlighting design, printed wiring board layout and ECAD support, connector selection, label & cable design, prototype inspection & assembly, environmental testing, and the documentation required to procure and assemble hardware
  • Working with other disciplines including Hardware (Electrical) Engineering, Program Management, Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, and Procurement as part of your daily activities
  • Hands-on position where you will take products from concept design all the way through integration, test, and production release
  • Conceptualization, design, development, analysis and documentation of mechanical hardware and/or systems for use in rugged military applications
  • Design of complex fixturing to support advanced manufacturing techniques
  • Creation of complex models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks 2020, Creo, and Inventor
  • Communication of design concepts and document product to diverse audiences internal and external to Mercury
  • Work with suppliers to improve product quality, support product validation testing such as thermal, optical, airflow, random vibration, mechanical shock, humidity, and environmental stress screening
  • Driving procurement of prototype material to verify form fit and function
  • Failure analysis of discrepant material in coordination with manufacturing and application engineering
  • Draft Test plans and Inspection reports as part of verification and validation
  • Excellent organizational and verbal/written communication skills Proficiency with standard documentation and presentation tools
  • Structuring Bills of Material (PLs) Drafting and managing Engineering Change Requests (ECRs)
  • This position requires you to have or be able to obtain a government security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience
  • A strong understanding of heat transfer and thermal management design and general knowledge of both conventional manufacturing techniques and advanced manufacturing, such as additive manufacturing
  • Comfortable working in a fast paced, dynamic, and multi-disciplinary environment with continuous learning opportunities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and accountability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree preferred
  • Background in detailed mechanical design including design for manufacturing, experience and understanding of Printed Wiring Board Assemblies design and processes
  • Familiarity with material control processes and documentation such as routers, work instructions, etc. and tools related to those functions (Agile, Oracle, EPDM, etc...) 3-D modelling in SolidWorks, Inventor, and Creo/Pro-E.
  • Experience with or knowledge of displays and display backlighting, any relevant post graduate work will be taken into consideration

Requires good manual dexterity/coordination, and stamina.
