Why does the job exist?
Under general supervision this position performs moderate to complex technical engineering tasks related to the analysis of construction materials, development plans, specifications and contract administration and inspections. This position will travel the state installing traffic count mechanisms and maintaining traffic count devices throughout the state.
How does it get done?
The primary focus of the role at this level is the performance of work at a moderate level of complexity in technical fields.
Key responsibilities of this position will include:
- Conduct site inspections of permanent traffic count locations across the state to assess functionality.
- Troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and calibrate the traffic counting site in the state of New Mexico.
- Inspect and monitor contacts; work while they install, repair, or preform maintenance on a site.
- Perform inspection reports of traffic count locations.
- Perform analysis and interpretation of data at a moderate level of complexity.
- Prepare and interpret plans at a moderate level of complexity.
- Provide data for the preparation of reports to be used by professional and managerial employees.
- Performs customer interaction, which may be in the field or in an office setting.
- Inputs data into existing databases.
- Assist and coordinate with other local, state, and federal agencies in the administration of permits.
- Assist and coordinate with contractors.
- Conduct short-duration traffic counts on a limited, as-needed basis.

The job is done for the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), City, State, and Local governments, as well as the general public.

Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate will have preferred education and/or experience in the following: * Accounts Payable (AP) Construction Software. * Microsoft Office Applications including Excel. * Ability to read construction plans and contract interpretation. * Environmental Systems Research Institute (Esri) Survey123 for ArcGIS (Geographic Informations Systems) and Workforce software. * Electrical testing equipment. * Attention to detail and accuracy. * Traffic counter operations. Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant experience. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling two (2) years may substitute for the required experience. Substitution Table These combinations of education and experience qualify you for the position: Education Experience 1 High School Diploma or Equivalent AND 2 years of experience 2 Associate's degree or higher (Bachelor's, Master's) AND 0 years of experience Education and years of experience must be related to the purpose of the position. If Minimum Qualification requires a specific number of "semester hours" in a field (e.g. 6 semester hours in Accounting), applicants MUST have those semester hours in order to meet the minimum qualifications.
