Shift Requirements : Days, Monday through Friday; Hybrid teleworking and flexible schedules available.
Special Requirements: Applicant must have an Iowa Professional Engineering license at the time of appointment and is responsible for maintaining the license by meeting continuing education requirements and all other professional obligations required by the State of Iowa.
As a Bridge Project Development Engineer , your duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Manage, supervise, and direct the design and plan preparation activities for the Bridges and Structures Bureau Final Design Units to optimize productivity, implement effective designs, and meet deliverable schedules.
- Provide technical support and guidance for bridge design engineers for the resolution of complex problems on design work.
- Assist the Bridges & Structures Bureau Director in the administration of the Bridges and Structures Bureau to accomplish the goals and objectives of the bureau in a timely and effective manner.
- Undertake special assignments as directed by the Bridges & Structures Bureau Director to advance initiatives and innovations in the bureau.
The Bridges and Structures Bureau budget prepares approximately 200 design plans annually with an estimated construction cost of approximately $300 million. The position supervises two bridge engineers, two bridge engineer associates, two design technician specialists, and one design technician in Final Design Unit 1 and one bridge engineer manager in Final Design Unit 2. Final Design Unit 2 consists of seven additional engineers and technicians working to develop final bridge design plans for the bridges and structures program.

3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer Manager or Transportation Engineer Senior or three years of full-time work as a Transportation Engineer Specialist.
