Senior Project Engineer - Transportation

Summary :
The Senior Project Engineer will assist with the planning, design, management, and oversight of a variety of engineering projects associated with City infrastructure with a focus on multi-modal transportation.

Responsibilities:
This position will provide highly responsible and complex administrative and technical support to the Municipal Services and Operations Department. This position will be responsible for coordinating multi-modal transportation projects consistent with the City’s Strategic Plan and Transportation Plan. Key responsibilities include development plan review, engineering design and specifications, traffic engineering, review of contract documents and cost estimates, development plan review, and construction management. This position will listen and respond to sensitive citizen inquires and be responsible for community engagement. Experience with transportation planning, traffic engineering, infrastructure development and project management is a plus. This position will report the City Engineer or Engineering Program Manager.

Qualifications:
At minimum, requires:

1) Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with major course work in engineering, construction management, or a related field;

2) three plus years of increasingly responsible engineering and project management experience in projects directly related to infrastructure management, CIP planning, and/or subdivision development and site planning; and

3) must be a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Kansas, or able to obtain a Professional Engineering license in the State of Kansas within 6 months of employment.

The ideal candidate will have supervisory experience over technical and professional staff with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of people. Desire working experience with MS Office, project management software, asset management software and GIS software. Possession of, or ability/willingness to obtain Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) is preferred.

The successful candidate must have a valid driver’s license and pass a post-offer City physical and drug screen.
