Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) has an immediate opportunity for a Staff Mechanical Engineer, supporting the Mission Systems organization. This is role encompassing technical competency, and team leadership. This position is in Apopka, FL. This position is to support and lead the mechanical design, integration, test, and production of laser and optical systems for handheld, ground, and airborne products.
The successful candidate will be a Staff Mechanical Engineer for the Department. The position requires a high level of competency in Mechanical Engineering. This candidate will demonstrate a broad skill set that is balanced between interpersonal, leadership, and technical capabilities. They must be a self-starter, able to efficiently operate in a team environment, and collaborate across the sector business areas as required to accomplish the team goals. The candidate will work closely with other developers, and multiple engineering disciplines.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership
Provide technical oversight for engineering activities performed by the mechanical team. Candidate will help mentor a team of diverse engineering experiences.
Candidate will be a thought leader of systems thinking and hardware engineering for both their team and the organization.
Perform as a mechanical engineer to support programs and new business efforts. These tasks will include hardware development plans, hardware requirements development, hardware design, and hardware integration and test strategies. Hardware sub-disciplines include circuit card design, mechanical design and mechanical analysis, including the design and integration of these sub-assemblies into systems and subsystems.
Engage and collaborate with program and functional organizations to obtain, understand, and interpret program resource needs to effectively meet program milestones.
Manage and maintain the day-to-day interfaces and communications between Program Management, Engineering Functionals, Manufacturing, and Global Supply Chain. Resolve issues spanning across Hardware Engineering functional area.
Facilitate internal meetings to support design, production, and problem resolution.
Utilize fundamental engineering principles to facilitate production and design changes within the project team that result in superior products within the program budget.
People Leadership:
Provide technical guidance and mentorship to more junior engineers to ensure projects in portfolio meet performance objectives
Ensure adherence to Process and Procedures and providing guidance to the team.
Support organizational engineering initiatives
Basic Qualifications:
B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM Degree and a minimum of 12 years engineering experience, or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM Degree and a minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, or a PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related STEM Degree with a minimum of 8 years of engineering experience
3D CAD proficiency, NX, CREO, Solid Works, etc.
Proficient in basic theoretical calculations of Mechanical analysis (topics including stress, thermal and pressure)
Experience leading mechanical design activities generating models, drawings, and bill of materials (BOMs) for production and development projects.
Experience with ANSI Y14.5M GD&T specifications
Mechanical design and drawings of electro-optical systems
US Citizenship is required with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance. Must be able to maintain this level of clearance for continued employment.
Experienced in Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) study
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering, or a related STEM field
Experience in design development of Optical, Rangefinder Receivers, Laser Diode Drivers, Electronic Warfare, Military, or Space Technologies
Experience with TeamCenter Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) applications to generate Engineering Releases, Engineering Changes, and Problem Reports.
Experience with military design and test specifications
Experience in Additive Manufacturing of mechanical parts
Experience supporting the integration of complex laser and optical-mechanical prototypes
Proficient in reading technical/engineering drawings or documents
Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) structural and/or thermal
ANSYS and/or IcePak
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills
Understanding of Earned Value Management
Experience in Proposal Writing
