Summary

Work in a team environment to develop products from concept stage to production ready. Support existing production products through VAVE and Continuous Improvement efforts.

Essential Functions

  1. Independently designs complete air conditioning and related electromechanical mechanical systems, products or product families of large scope ranging from simple products to complex systems to satisfy customer requirements. Organizes design plan and technical strategy to assure successful execution from concept to launch.
  2. Communicates design intent through creation of robust engineering or product specifications and along with the documented spec, provides the necessary guidance to mechanical designers for successful design execution. modeling, drawing, and simulation
  3. Directs, coordinates, supports and/or audits manufacturing and assembly activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications and customer expectations.
  4. Provides technical leadership for project teams. Project focused efforts to ensure that technical solutions are delivered to support overall project needs. May mentor junior engineers.
  5. Practices and teaches others in the application of product development methods, engineering tools, and related industry standards. Utilizes knowledge and expertise on industry standards and regulatory requirements to lead and teach team in this area.
  6. Writes and reviews test plans and procedures. Predicts test performance based on sound engineering practices. Directs personnel in fabrication of test equipment, and develops methods and procedures for testing products or systems.
  7. Proactively investigates and solves problems that affect scrap, warranty/reliability and product cost for new and/or existing products. Applies root cause analysis. Drives and communicates design/BOM changes according to revision control standards
  8. Researches and analyzes data such as internal customer product proposals, drawings/specifications, application, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application considering cost, time, and other factors. May delegate related work to Mechanical Designers and/or Engineers on the team.
  9. Analyzes test data for viability and development of products. Directs and participates in the hands-on assembly or prototyping of engineering concepts and/or pre-production builds.
  10. Uses project management software. Helps create project schedule and adhere to timelines. Tracks time associated with specific tasks.
  11. Demonstrate a strong commitment to LCI's safety and personnel policies
  12. Works with customers to understand needs and issues, evaluates field installations and recommends design modifications

Competencies

  1. Solid mechanical engineering experience; engineers components and electromechanical systems with no supervisory technical oversight. Understands and can use complex mathematical concepts relating to mechanical drive systems, electronics, static loading analysis.
  2. Strong working knowledge of drawing detailing and GD&T practices, able to fully detail component drawings with no assistance and can instruct others in most related topics.
  3. Strong working knowledge of tolerance stack-up analysis (TSA). Capable of performing complex and complete system tolerance stack up analysis, including statistical analysis when required, assessing accumulated dimension/tolerance variation of complex assemblies/components with no supervision.
  4. Strong experience with NPI processes, leading technical tasks such as Risk Analysis, FMEA, PFMEA, product specification, etc.
  5. Experience handling highly complex engineering issues and problems, drawing valid conclusions based on robust data collection and fact-based review for conclusions. Refers only the most complex issues to higher-level staff.
  6. Possesses strong working knowledge of engineering principles related to the position. Has continuously applied engineering principles in practice and teaches others in most of the design topics related to the responsibility.
  7. Must possess leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring skills through proven experience. May possess supervisory experience.
  8. Strong team player skills; able to work well with others and support internal/external customer needs. Ability to brainstorm with a group
  9. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
  10. Ability to Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

The performance of this position requires exposure to the manufacturing areas were the use of personal protective equipment is mandatory. For the most part ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional equipment as typically found in the office environment, however, working outdoors is sometimes required.

Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar technical degree is preferred
  2. Experience in Electromechanical product development

Preferred Qualifications

  1. 7-9 years experience in related field
  2. Experience in the design of air conditioning products, specifically sealed system design

Environmental Factors

Employees in this position may be exposed to the following:

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; weekend and overnight work is also necessary.

Travel

Travel is expected for this position approximately 5-8 times per year (total of 10-20 overnights).
