JOB DESCRIPTION: Our client, a large defense contractor, has an immediate opening for a Lead Systems / Electrical Engineer t o work from their Manassas, VA facility. As a Lead Systems / Electrical Engineer (Sr Adv Electrical Eng) for the Transmit Group (TG), you'll lead a small cross functional team responsible for the design, requirements, development, manufacturing, integration, production and life cycle maintenance of active sonar TG onboard all U.S. Navy legacy and emergent submarine classes. TG produces the high energy pulses of sound that travel through the water to identify targets of interest. The TG team works with the Navy, internal production staff and representatives from other companies that provide companion systems and services to ensure TG systems meet all requirements, are delivered on time and function properly both in a laboratory environment and onboard U.S. Navy submarines. You will collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders and customers developing and delivering high power systems and sensors that meet their high expectations.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience. Must have past leadership experience.

CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is obtainable within a reasonable time from hire. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work with development, system engineering, and production teams to accurately identify, characterize, resolve, document, and track hardware deficiencies.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve transmit group hardware issues in the system integration and test, production, and power lab environments.
  • Develop technical presentations, recommendations, and written communications to explain issues to program management and Navy customer team.
  • Create, review, and execute hardware design documentation such as interface control drawings, assembly drawings, test procedures, and other technical documents.
  • Research and develop product specifications and interface requirements.
  • Resolve complex hardware/software compatibility and interface design issues.
  • Evaluate components to determine performance impacts to existing designs.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the capacity to drive innovation and secure buy-in on concepts and ideas
  • Interact with customers at technical and programmatic levels.

Required Skills:
  • Working knowledge of CAD and associated CAE tools for design, drawing creation, analysis, BOM generation and part tracking
  • Understanding of power/analog hardware and systems, and electronics troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with hardware and system integration testing (Assembly Level Test / Unit Test / Integration Test / System Performance Test).
  • Expert-level understanding of hardware development processes throughout the lifecycle of the program or project
  • Experience with circuit card design using advanced materials and packaging techniques
  • Collaborative, creative thinker with demonstrated success leading design teams for complex projects
  • Working knowledge of the Linux

Desired Skills:
  • Hands on experience with at least one major CAD tool (e.g. SolidWorks, Inventor, Catia etc.) for 5 years AND one major CAE tool (e.g. ANSYS, CD-ADAPCO, ALGOR etc.) for 5 years concurrently
  • High speed circuit card design incorporating embedded processors or FPGAs
  • Acoustics and/or Sonar applications
  • Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD)

Workplace Options:
This position is fully on-site and requires occasional travel. While on-site, you will be a part of the Manassas, VA facility.
