**Purpose**
The Substation Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and support of high-voltage electrical substation systems for utility and infrastructure projects. This role ensures substation projects meet all technical, safety, and regulatory standards while aligning with client goals and Bowmans commitment to delivering reliable power system solutions.
**Responsibilities**
**Leadership and Direction**
+ Contribute technical expertise to multidisciplinary engineering teams in the planning and design of substation projects.
+ Serve as a resource to junior engineers and drafters, providing mentorship and quality assurance support.
+ Participate in internal knowledge-sharing initiatives to advance the firms substation engineering capabilities.
**At the Operational and Company Level**
+ Collaborate with project managers, utility clients, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with codes, standards, and project specifications.
+ Support cross-functional coordination with civil, structural, and protection/control teams on integrated substation projects.
+ Uphold company values and represents Bowman in client-facing meetings with professionalism and technical credibility.
**Do the Work**
+ Perform detailed electrical design and analysis for new and existing substations up to 500kV, including layout, equipment specification, and grounding studies.
+ Prepare engineering drawings and documentation, including one-lines, schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment plans.
+ Conduct fault and load flow analysis using relevant software tools.
+ Perform site visits for scoping, commissioning, or construction support as needed.
+ Review and approve vendor equipment submittals and shop drawings.

**Qualifications**
+ Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering required.
+ 3+ years of experience in substation design or utility power systems preferred.
+ Engineer-in-Training (EIT) required; Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred or ability to obtain within 12 months.
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, MicroStation, or similar CAD tools; knowledge of power system modeling tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM) is a plus.
+ Familiarity with NESC, IEEE, and utility standards.
+ Prior experience working with utilities or EPC firms strongly preferred.
