The Position The City of Yuba City is currently recruiting for Engineering Technician I/II!
This recruitment will close on Thursday, July 24, 2025 at 5PM (PST) or upon receiving twenty (20) minimally qualified applications.

Performs responsible office and fieldwork in support of City Engineering activities including, but not limited to: surveying, drafting, GIS mapping, traffic data collection, Public Works inspection, permit issuance, map review, plan review, and related work as assigned. Positions within this job classification are flexibly-staffed and usually filled by entry-level advancement. Advancement requires the incumbent to meet the minimum qualifications and demonstrate the ability to perform the responsibilities needed for a higher level.

Engineering Technician I:
This is the entry-level position in the series, and employees in this classification work under close supervision. Incumbents perform less technical work while learning City and departmental procedures and becoming familiar with various engineering/surveying technical support work. As experience is gained, duties are diversified and performed under general supervision.

Engineering Technician II:
This is the journey-level position in the series, distinguished from Engineering Technician I by the required four years of work experience or equivalent necessary to perform additional duties. Incumbents must be able to perform various technical engineering/surveying support duties independently. Duties encompass office and field essential functions, including expertise in drafting, surveying, GIS mapping, map checking, basic design, development review, and/or Public Works inspection. Incumbents shall have knowledge of engineering/surveying concepts, construction inspection, terminology, development processes, and mathematics. Incumbents in this position are expected to perform the full range of essential functions with limited supervision.

Please note: The oral panel interview for this recruitment is tentatively planned for Wednesday, July 30th, please plan accordingly. Minimum Qualifications Engineering Technician I:

Education : Associate degree with coursework in mathematics, drafting, CAD, GPS, GIS, database management or a related field.
Experience : No experience is required.
OR
Education: High School diploma or equivalent..
Experience: Minimum of two (2) year of increasingly responsible experience in engineering, drafting, construction, surveying, CAD and/or GIS.

Engineering Technician II:

Education: Associate degree, with coursework in mathematics, drafting, CAD, GPS, GIS, database management, or related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience equivalent to an Engineering Technician I position with the City of Yuba City.
OR
Education: High School diploma or equivalent..
Experience: Minimum of four (4) year of increasingly responsible experience in engineering, drafting, construction, surveying, CAD and/or GIS.

Licenses and/or Certificates Required:
