DESCRIPTION:

Supervises and performs office and field technical work involving highway and building construction. This is an upper level position in the Engineering Technician series which is distinguished primarily from the entrance level position by varying degrees of independ- ence and versatility. Incumbent in this class calls for a person with enough training and experience to be able to supervise and to do a variety of technical work in civil, highway and building construction independently with little direct supervision. The work is per- formed under the general supervision of a Principal Engineering Technician or Engineer. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EITHER

A.Graduation from an accredited college or university with at least an Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Drafting, Construction Technology, Geographic Information Systems or a closely related field and two (2) years of experience in field sur- veying, CAD, construction inspection or highway construction; OR,

B.Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and four (4) years of experience in field sur- veying, CAD, construction inspection or highway construction.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of an appropriate class New York State driver's license at the time of appointment and throughout employment.

NOTE:

Satisfactory completion of 30 undergraduate credits in Civil Engineering may be substituted for each year of the required experience.
