WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The Mechanical Engineer (Automation) will plan, budget, schedule, and conduct technical activities on Mechanical, Automation and continuous improvement projects for the Saint-Gobain PCR business in Worcester, MA. He/she/they will provide technical expertise in the realm of automation and controls while also overseeing team and independently run mechanical and automation projects. They will monitor work for compliance, accepted engineering practices, and standards. The incumbent will act as liaison between engineering and manufacturing departments/personnel. They will influence effective communication and ensure coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project participants, especially regarding changes of processes and procedures. The incumbent will institute project quality and documentation to execute deliverables on assignments.

Project Manager: (50%)

Assist in the preparation of Capex project proposals, including budgeting, vendor quote and solicitation and development of scope of work

Plan, conduct, and coordinate technical and management aspects of mechanical and automation projects to improve plant productivity, safety and quality.

Create, maintain, and communicate project schedules to meet company goals.

Organize and plan work tasks and contractor administration to ensure successful completion of engineering projects.

Ensures standards of safety, quality, and reliability are built into project solution.

Create and communication monthly project status reports

Continuous Improvement and Plant Support: (40%)

Ensures full documentation of all projects and systems to WCM / Early Equipment Management Standards.

Lead Facility modernization initiatives though PLC upgrades and process monitoring equipment rollout.

Though the use of CAD design, coordinate improvements, repairs and reorganizational support to other cross functional teams.

Implement new process technologies for new and existing products to improve process capability, improve the value stream, and reduce total cost.

Identify and lead cost reduction projects, requiring cross functional teamwork and global manufacturing site collaboration.

Design and develop new projects and system concepts that can expand product lines and profitability

Technical Expert: (10%)

Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.

Assist manufacturing and maintenance with any automation and mechanical troubleshooting issues.

Assist Quality and Process engineering team with development of expanded process capabilities

Assist HSE team with new and existing Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives

REQUIREMENTS:

BS/BA in Engineering or related field of study required

3-5 years of Manufacturing Experience

Project Management Skills - demonstrated ability to design, manage, and implement projects.

Extensive knowledge of Autocad and Inventor

Good organizational skills and recordkeeping

Strong attention to detail, ability to follow directions and meet deadlines

Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legal and safety regulations

Shows exceptional safety leadership skills through displaying safe work practices at all times, and encourages and empowers other staff to do the same.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communications skills and the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and with customers are necessary. Must be able to influence leaders in all departments.

Ability of using various scientific rules and methods to solve problems coupled with the ability to detect and solve problems effectively.
