POSITION SUMMARY
- The Electrical Engineer will focus on development & testing of new subsystems to be used in large battery backup products deployed with Vertiv uninterruptible power supplies. Subsystems include batteries and electronic subassemblies. This position works closely with others from research & development, product management, program management, and manufacturing engineering to deliver a solution while meeting cost, schedule, and performance targets.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and test electrical designs for new battery management systems.
- Research and create test plans for new UPS backup battery types.
- Help create specifications for new circuit boards for battery management systems and assist with schematic development.
- Interact with outside vendors and suppliers as needed (e.g. clarifying specifications, obtaining quotes for equipment).
- Understand applicable national and international standards and ensure designs comply.
- Create user manuals for new Vertiv products being launched.
- Assist in sustaining engineering activities, e.g. evaluation of substitute components.
- Provide occasional engineering support for test activities being undertaken by other Vertiv product groups.
- Provide occasional engineering support for other activities at Vertiv.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related discipline
- 0-2 years of experience in an Electrical Engineer role.
- Must have good planning, organizing, documentation and communication skills. Must be team-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Must be able to lead and coordinate project tasks with other engineering teams all around the world.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in any of the following areas is desirable:
Analog or high-voltage circuit design
Industrial equipment design
Commercial or industrial power infrastructure
Uninterruptible power supplies
Sensor & microprocessor integration
Lithium-ion battery management systems
Experience certifying one or more products with a listing agency such as UL or CSA
Knowledge of NEC or NFPA 855 is desirable but not required.
Experience using 2-dimensional CAD is desirable but not required.
