Role Synopsis
The Compression Engineer is a strategic technical leader responsible for driving compressor optimization across the Eagleford asset. This role focuses on system-level compression strategy, unit sizing and selection, lifecycle planning, performance optimization, and vendor management. Operating primarily in an office environment, the Compression Engineer collaborates with operations, production & facility engineering, construction teams, and supply chain teams to develop and implement scalable programs that improve reliability, lower cost, and enhance production performance.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and continuously improve a comprehensive compression strategy aligned with asset production goals and growth plans.
Perform detailed analysis and equipment sizing, ensuring fit-for-purpose design based on well and pad volumes, pressure regimes, and system constraints.
Lead the development and execution of asset-wide compression programs, including performance tracking, vendor integration, maintenance planning, and optimization initiatives.
Work with vendors and production operations to build best practices for trouble shooting.
Balance short term compression needs with long term asset development strategies for compression.
Build and manage tools, dashboards, and workflows to monitor compressor health, run times, efficiencies, and cost performance. Drive data-informed decision-making across teams.
Serve as the engineering point of contact for operations, facilities, supply chain, and vendors. Provide strategic feedback into capital planning, contract negotiations, and project readiness reviews.
Identify trends and improvement opportunities across the fleet. Develop standard practices, lessons learned, and documentation to scale knowledge and reduce variability.
Train and mentor field operators and junior engineers on compressor systems, optimization techniques, and diagnostic tools.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, or related field
5+ years of experience in upstream production operations, preferably with compression/rotating equipment systems
Proven experience developing and managing large-scale compressor optimization or reliability programs
Strong understanding of compression sizing principles and gas lift systems
Proficient in data analysis tools (Excel, Power BI, Spotfire, etc.)
Familiarity with KPI development, vendor scorecards, and contract compliance
Ability to influence cross-functional teams and vendors without direct authority
Strong communication and presentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with automation and remote monitoring of compression
Solid understanding of SCADA and facility/process data systems
Track record of improving uptime, reducing OPEX, or standardizing equipment fleet
Previous experience in vendor management or contract optimization
