Purpose of Role
The Engineering Technician plays a critical hands-on role in supporting the daily operations of our manufacturing facility. This position focuses on improving safety, increasing process efficiency, and deploying automation technologies. Engineering Technicians work cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, and Safety teams to drive reliable, efficient, and innovative manufacturing processes.
Areas of Accountability
Automation & Technical Support
- Support plant operations by installing and optimizing automation systems and new equipment.
- Lead or assist in efficient automation changeovers during product transitions.
- Troubleshoot robotic and automated systems to minimize production downtime.
- Deploy collaborative robots and other automation tools to reduce labor reliance and operational risks.
- Design, build, and maintain robotic end-of-arm tooling (EOAT) for local robotic fleets.
- Use mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic skills to construct and enhance automation work cells.
- Start up, shut down, and troubleshoot injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment.
- Assist in the integration of new products (NPD) into manufacturing.
Safety Improvement
- Partner with Safety and Plant Management teams to lead or support safety improvement projects.
- Demonstrate a proactive commitment to safety, maintaining an advanced knowledge of company policies and procedures.
- Actively engage in plant-wide safety events, audits, and committee activities.
Project Ownership & Workload Management
- Lead small- to mid-scale technical projects from concept to execution, including timeline planning, resource coordination, and stakeholder communication.
- Balance project initiatives with daily responsibilities and standard support work, ensuring production needs are met while driving improvements.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and manage their implementation without disrupting critical operations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align project goals with plant priorities and ensure smooth handoffs.
Continuous Improvement
- Reduce deployment times for collaborative robots and product changeovers through systematic improvements.
- Drive cycle time and downtime reduction initiatives across automation and auxiliary systems.
- Improve existing systems using mechanical, electrical, and PLC programming capabilities.
- Maintain awareness of the latest developments in plastics, robotics, and automation technology.
- Support the rollout of best practices and national engineering standards by working with local and corporate teams.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Technical degree or degree in Engineering (Preferred)
- Project management experience
- Root cause analysis and problem-solving tools
- Experience working with machinery, hydraulics, and automated systems, including reading prints.
- Ability to program PLCs (Preferred)
- Understanding of robot Programming (Preferred)
- Experience designing and building electrical enclosures
- Fabrication experience (Preferred)
- Experience with hand and power tools
- Excellent communicator (verbal & written) and an ability to summarize and communicate information clearly.
- Proficient with MS Office tools
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
