Responsibilities include instrumentation and control system design, prototype development and testing, system-level integration, and commissioning. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists, as well as suppliers and external partners, to deliver high-quality, safety-critical systems.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role , focused on engineering excellence, design integration, and execution. It does not include supervisory responsibilities for direct employees.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design of I&C systems and sub-system functional requirements through final design.

  • Develop and review system- and component-level specifications, scopes of work, and technical deliverables.

  • Support coordination of scope, schedule, and technical integration for safety systems.

  • Interface with geographically diverse design teams, subcontractors, and partners.

  • Perform engineering evaluations in the application of nuclear codes, standards, and NRC regulations.

  • Specify instrumentation techniques for sodium fast reactor and integrated energy storage technologies, considering measurement range, accuracy, and response time.

  • Develop and review technical design documents, including System Requirements, System Design Descriptions, Interface Control Documents, and Engineering Specifications.

  • Generate and manage integrated design packages, including P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, logic and loop diagrams, and instrument installation drawings.

  • Provide technical oversight and direction to suppliers, including reviews of deliverables.

  • Support licensing activities and interface with safety analysis and PRA teams.

  • Promote continuous learning and apply industry best practices to ensure technical excellence and compliance.

Qualifications
  • B.S. or higher in Controls, Electrical, or related discipline from an accredited university.

  • 18+ years of direct experience in instrumentation and control systems (higher education may substitute for years of experience).

  • Proven background in I&C system development, diagnostics, and implementation, with the ability to design and deliver industrial I&C platforms.

  • Prior experience with nuclear reactor safety systems or nuclear instrumentation systems design required.

  • Familiarity with applicable IEEE standards (e.g., IEEE 379, IEEE 603, IEEE 497, IEEE 7-4.3.2, IEEE 1012) desired.

  • Knowledge of nuclear QA standards (10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1) preferred.

  • Experience with high-temperature (400C+) process design and operation desirable.

  • Strong ability to balance competing objectives and resolve conflicts between design constraints.

  • Technical writing, communication, and presentation skills at a professional level.

  • Experience with CAD software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks) desirable.

  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to lead technical teams with minimal oversight.

  • Experience with reactor protection systems, neutron detectors, post-accident monitoring, seismic detection, setpoint/uncertainty analysis, or radiation monitoring is a plus.

Job Functions
  • Work involves sitting/standing for extended periods, fine motor control, and frequent computer use.

  • Must be able to safely lift up to 25 lbs.

  • Work environment is standard office-based, >8 hours/day.

  • Limited travel (05%) may be required.
