Employment Type: Independent Contractor, estimated at 20 hours/week, Grant-Funded

Compensation: $2,800-$3,200 per month

About RMCR

Rocky Mountain Community Radio (RMCR) is a coalition of 21 non-commercial radio stations serving communities across Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming, which has been collaborating for over forty years. Our member stations are deeply rooted in their local regions, delivering culturally relevant music, public affairs programming, and local news that reflects the diversity and character of the Rocky Mountain West.

Position Overview

RMCR is piloting an innovative initiative to share engineering resources across its member stations. The Project Coordinator will lead the development and administration of this shared engineering program, working closely with station staff, the Engineering Project Committee, and RMCR's staff engineer (once hired). This role is central to building this program and ensuring sustainable systems, coordinating technical support, and developing a replicable model that can be used nationally.

This is a grant-funded position, and the funding has been secured for at least three years. Learn more about the initiative here.

Key Responsibilities

Program Coordination & Development

  • Conduct a comprehensive needs assessment across member stations, identifying urgent and deferred engineering needs
  • Track progress against project goals and milestones
  • Coordinate with station staff to schedule and prioritize engineering support
  • Develop workflows to manage competing station needs efficiently
  • Maintain clear communication with all stakeholders, including 21 member stations and the Engineering Project Committee

Resource Management & Documentation

  • Maintain and manage an equipment bank inventory
  • Develop logistics and access protocols for member stations to use shared equipment
  • Document lessons learned and create templates and guides to help other coalitions replicate the shared engineering model

Apprenticeship Program Design

  • Collaborate with the Engineering Project Committee to design a regional apprenticeship program
  • Build partnerships with community organizations, veterans organizations, technical schools, and similar workforce development programs
  • Support mentorship opportunities between experienced engineers and apprentices
