Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals within our Lab Test organization. This position is located in Melbourne, FL.

In this role you will be responsible for electrical designs associated with various air vehicle systems and subsystems, and integration onto labs, test vehicles, or specialized test equipment. You'll perform these design activities on any of the following cable interface assemblies, data acquisition hardware, and a variety of sensors design to measure stress, thermal, vibration, and linear / rotational displacement.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to

  • Drafting electrical wiring schematics

  • Design of electrical systems in accordance with scope of work.

  • Review documentation such as but not limited to schematics, diagrams, equipment data sheets, hazard area classification drawings, and electrical analysis or studies developed by other engineers and designers.

  • Analyze trade studies to evaluate alternative design solutions to resolve technical issues.

  • Develop and present design change requests, coordinate with impacted internal and external stakeholders, to ensure configuration control of the technical baseline.

  • Identify risks and opportunities associated with or driven by design factors.

  • Develop and mature Electrical designs that meet Weapon System requirements, UFC, MIL-STD, and other applicable codes and regulations.

  • Follows documented processes, specifications and procedures that support the design and manufacture of electrical commodities.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a Bachelors Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) discipline and 5 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Masters Degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related professional/military experience; OR a Ph.D. in a STEM discipline and 1 year of related professional/military experience.
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Secret clearance (DoD must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
  • Professional experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software, NX10, and/or GD&T

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing aircraft installations
  • Electrical engineering design experience in the test instrumentation discipline
  • Experience in subsystem, payload, or system integration
  • Knowledge of aircraft-type cable assemblies, MIL type wiring and components such as mil connectors, back shells, relays, switches, indicator lights, terminal junction system components, etc.
  • Knowledge of communications hardware and protocol for Ethernet, serial, 1553
  • Knowledge of electrical components, power design and consideration
  • Systems integration of components in a laboratory environment

Primary Level Salary Range: $95,300.00 - $142,900.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
