The Opportunity:

You will provide our NAVSEA/NSWC/MSC Technical and Program Office clients with expert technical support in developing the next Navy ships at our onsite work location. You will perform as a key engineering lead directly supporting our key clients and be a recognized technical leader among colleagues and team members and perform engineering tasking on programs as broad as the Navys fleet supporting aircraft carriers, combatants, amphibious and auxiliary ships from program initiation through concept, design, construction, life cycle, and fleet support. You will lead critical engineering efforts across various ship design programs. You will advise and support Ship Design Managers, Program/Project Managers, Systems Engineering Managers (SEM), Task Leads, and colleagues on the best practices for shipboard electrical generation, propulsion and distribution systems, including machinery control and propulsion control systems for both new construction and fleet modernization programs. As a Senior Naval Electrical Engineer, you will ensure Naval and Commercial Engineering Standards and Quality Assurance Processes are met while mentoring junior engineers and coordinating teammates. You will stay current in modern ship design requirements, analysis, emerging technologies, from traditional CAD and Excel analyses to digital engineering and modeling methods and evolving advanced equipment design trends. You will be a self-starter, perform as a team player cross multiple engineering management teams, and support technical proposal development as needed.

The Primary Focus for this role is a lead and/or co-lead role supporting NAVSEA and MSC Programs in the following electrical technical areas, including but not limited to Main and Auxiliary Diesel and Gas Turbine Generators, Integrated Electrical Plants (hybrid and full), Low Voltage AC and DC, and Medium Voltage AC Electrical Plants, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electrical Plant Load Analyses (EPLA), One Line Diagrams, Power Load Flow, Harmonic Power Quality, Transient System and Fault Current Analyses, Circuit Breaker Protective Coordination Studies, Machinery Centralized Control Systems (MCCS), and Electric Propulsion Control Systems. Candidate will have experience with various OEM offerings conveying a practitioners knowledge for all phases of acquisition based on deck plate and/or shipyard, and Naval, MSC, or OEM project experiences. Candidate will be well versed across many ship platforms and/or have a proven track record across some of the following platforms: MSC T- Ships, AMPHIBS, Carriers, and/or Combatants, FMS Programs, USCG Programs, Unmanned Maritime Systems (UMSs) and/or Unmanned Maritime Vehicles (UMVs). Candidate is willing to make technical and industry connections with customers in markets such as NAVSEA 05Z, shipyards, and other marine engineering consulting firms and willing to grow CACIs electrical team presence in the marine industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide onsite engineering support of Military Sealift Command (MSC) on various transportation alteration (Transalt) work and packages.
  • Ensure that NAVSEA/NSWC/MSC Clients, Ship Design Managers, Systems Engineering Managers, Task Leads, and internal customers receive accurate technical advice in a timely fashion
  • Foster a strong mentorship culture so that junior employees receive training, knowledge, and oversight as they mature into more capable engineers
  • Develop into a Subject Matter Expert who takes ownership of key disciplines in electrical engineering
  • Support strategic opportunities for growth in the Naval Engineering marketspace.
  • Support specific areas in proposals and targeted growth areas, with willingness to learn larger proposal support efforts

Qualifications:

Required:

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or Engineering (BSE/BE), BS/AS in Electrical Engineering Technology (EET) or marine engineering; or similar background and/or specialized such as significant US Navy training with an Associates degree will be accepted in lieu of Bachelors degree
  • 8-15 years of experience with Five years of experience in US Naval Ship Engineering, either within the NAVSEA/PEO Governmental Organizations, Shipyard Construction and Repair, Ship Operations (as a USCG Certified Officer or US Naval Officer), NAVSEA contractor support, or similar electrical power systems experience
  • Explicit Knowledge of ABS MVR/NVR, USCG, SOLAS, NAVY SPECs (e.g., DDS, DOD-HDBK, NSTM,TPUBs, MIL-STD) and Commercial Specs (e.g., IEEE, ANSI/ASTM)
  • MSC Transalt experience; shipchecks, package development, quality assurance, redlines, etc.
  • Experience reading and creating drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented and able to work in fast-paced work environment.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly in English.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 10% of the time.
  • Capable of perform design shipchecks onboard MSC and Navy ships
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Security clearance eligibility.

Desired:

  • Five years of experience performing as a key lead of NAVSEA, or MSC engineering team projects comprised of least 10 team members and across HM&E disciplines
  • Masters Degree in Electrical Engineering, or related degree
  • Professional Engineering License
  • USCG Engineering License (Chief Engineer, 1st A/E, 2nd A/E, 3rd A/E Rating)
  • Lead Engineer for former NAVSEA Ship Design Manager, Former NAVSEA 05Z Technical Warrant Holder, PMS 320 Electric Ships Office SME, NAVFAC SME, or MSC SME
  • Participation in professional organizations (e.g., IEEE, SNAME) by authoring professional papers, holding elected office, or serving on a national or international board
  • Experience with Top Side, C4I, and Navigation
