The Mechanical Design Engineer for (SFS) with in Entrepix plays a crucial role in applying principles and techniques of mechanical engineering to accomplish goals in a fast-paced environment within the semiconductor industry. This individual develops, designs, assembles and tests mechanical and electro-mechanical systems, components, and equipment. Typical daily activities include:
- New equipment design using SolidWorks CAD tools.
- Sustaining engineering design and documentation such as part and assembly revisions using SolidWorks, DraftSight, and other software platforms.
- Design of upgraded parts and assemblies for existing equipment, often involving reverse-engineering of existing equipment and subassemblies.
- Support of manufacturing and other operations within the business, in a mechanical engineering capacity
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Directly responsible for mechanical product design as well as engineering innovation and
- support for specialized semiconductor process equipment.
- Design, build, and test new products including equipment upgrades, retrofits, replacement
- parts, and entire new subsystems and tools.
- Participate in the prototype and first article assembly process for new mechanical assemblies,
- including fabrication of components when applicable (3D printing, machining, etc.), assembly
- and subassembly build-up, and initial and final debug and testing.
- Assist manufacturing engineers and personnel when form, fit, function or production issues
- with new or existing products and componentry arise and require design engineering
- intervention to resolve.
- Advise on corrective course of action and development of rework
- procedures, installation fixtures and tooling, custom components, and other applicable
- solutions to overcome these problems.
- Develop and implement new and innovative methods to improve the engineering process, such
- as utilizing cutting-edge manufacturing methods, and any other applicable mechanisms of
- enhancing engineering capabilities.
- Create, review, and maintain documentation during, upon completion of, and after concluding new projects, upgrades, retrofits, or spare part development, including part and assembly drawings, assembly and operation instructions, and any other applicable items.
- Work on electromechanical designs (cables, harnesses) and control systems
- Direct activities to ensure that manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing
- conform to functional specifications and customer requirements.
- Provide engineering support to the concept evaluation, procurement, manufacturing, business
- unit, and product support functions within the business.
- Formally report product status and testing results in a timely fashion.
- Apply fundamental engineering principles to design challenges while being aware of the
- implications of cost, schedule, and manufacturability of the product.
- Maintain an awareness of changes in the industry and in the development of components that
- may assist future design activities.
- Familiarize with and continually learn different product lines within the business, including.
- intended function and end-product of equipment, basic operation of equipment, and
- knowledge of semiconductor processes in the context of equipment and engineering designs.
- Travel (up to 10%) may be required.
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering with 4+ years of related experience and/or training, OR equivalent industry experience required. Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering is a plus.
- Semiconductor industry experience required; CMP equipment experience is a strong plus
- Proven judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- Self-starting individual with a passion to solve problems and who will seek out
- assistance as required when issues or roadblocks arise
- Solid understanding of and experience in mechanical design, including mechanisms, enclosures, and electromechanical assemblies
- Experience with reverse engineering
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Clear and sound understanding of engineering documentation, both in creation and utilization
- Strong troubleshooting knowledge and problem-solving skills
- Experience in SolidWorks required
- Experience in Siemens Solid Edge is a plus
- Experience in 2D CAD environment (AutoCAD, Draftsight, etc.) is required
- Experience in SolidWorks Electrical (Schematic and/or 3D) is a plus
- Experience in working with suppliers, vendors, etc. in product development and resolving quality issues is a plus.
- Mechanical aptitude is required, including the ability to use basic hand tools, precision measuring tools (i.e. calipers, micrometer, CMM, etc.)
Language Ability
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or co-workers.
- Ability to write articles for publication and presentation that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to coworkers, management, and the public.
- Ability to produce instruction documents to clearly communicate information to technicians, field service engineers, etc. who are building or installing products for the business.
Mathematical Ability
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to mechanical engineering problems.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to apply principles of logic or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.
- Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, diagrams, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet software.
- Experience using CAD software is required. Proficiency in project management software, ERP systems, and Microsoft Visio considered a plus.
