We are hiring a full-time, permanent Senior Engineer, Apparatus position working out of Edmonton, AB.
EPCOR is seeking an experienced Senior Apparatus Engineer to join our Transmission Engineering team. In this role, you will lead complex, multidiscipline engineering projects for highvoltage substations (72 kV to 500 kV), advance technical standards, and provide expertise that strengthens the reliability and performance of EPCOR's transmission system.
What you'd be responsible for
Lead major, multidiscipline substation apparatus engineering projects, managing engineering resources, schedules, and deliverables
Perform and authenticate apparatus engineering designs, ensuring compliance with EPCOR standards, APEGA guidelines, and industry codes
Support construction and commissioning activities, including developing scopes of work and reviewing inspection and test plans
Drive technical change initiatives by developing and maintaining engineering standards, philosophies, templates, specifications and risk mitigation
Review and provide recommendations on internal and external design packages, studies, reports, and asbuilt documentation
Represent EPCOR as a technical expert in external committees (IEEE, CEATI, IEC, AESO, AUC) and internal crossfunctional groups
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers, technologists, EITs, and students
Conduct and review technical studies (e.g., grounding, insulation coordination, EMI, lightning, noise) to inform design decisions
Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting needs (tools, software, training), and alignment with Transmission Engineering strategies
What's required to be successful
Degree in Electrical Engineering, registered or eligible to be registered with APEGA
8-10 years of design experience in apparatus engineering
5+ years of experience performing active, on-site field support for construction projects
Knowledge and experience with High Voltage Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) will be considered an asset.
Knowledge of City of Edmonton codes and standards
Knowledge of all industry apparatus standards (AEUC, IEEE, AESO, etc.)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electric Office or other GIS systems, IVARA, P6 and/or other work management tools, such as MS Project
Strong diagnostic skills required to manage complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage budgets
Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to advise, mentor, and influence internal and external stakeholders
Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills
