Job Description

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on improving production efficiency, lowering operating costs, and maximizing manufacturing uptime in a dynamic glass manufacturing environment. You will lead capital and plant improvement projects, manage and troubleshoot electrical power systems, and provide hands-on support to operations and maintenance teams. The position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects, including major facility upgrades, while being mentored by an experienced engineering leader and collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support and troubleshoot issues related to the plants electrical power distribution system and associated equipment.
  • Improve yields, reduce costs, and increase manufacturing uptime by supporting and optimizing existing facilities and processes.
  • Provide leadership for capital projects and plant improvements from concept through implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and corporate capability groups to plan and execute projects effectively.
  • Instruct plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of electrical and control systems you help implement.
  • Determine design requirements and prepare technical specifications and drawings for major capital projects and plant improvements.
  • Procure necessary materials and services for electrical and controls projects, working with vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Coordinate the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of electrical systems and equipment for new and existing facilities.
  • Prepare cost estimates and develop project budgets and timelines to ensure projects stay on schedule and within scope.
  • Write electrical specifications, create electrical single-line diagrams and layout drawings, and use them to select and guide electrical contractors.
  • Monitor and review working drawings prepared by outside contractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
  • Provide contractor management and safety oversight for all contractor services related to electrical and controls work.
  • Participate in planning and execution of major plant upgrades and repairs, including high-value projects such as tempering lines, new warehouse and coating processes, and cold tank repairs.
  • Engage regularly on the plant floor to build strong working relationships, understand operational needs, and provide responsive technical support.
  • Work hands-on with power systems, cooling towers, and related infrastructure to ensure reliable and safe plant operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with power system distribution and backup systems, including emergency generators, UPS, and automatic transfer switches (ATS).
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a heavy industrial or process setting.
  • Project management experience overseeing technical projects from planning through completion.
  • Solid foundation in electrical engineering principles, particularly as they apply to industrial power and control systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and power system issues in an operating plant.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with operations, maintenance, contractors, and corporate teams.
  • Ability to provide clear instructions and training to plant personnel on electrical and control systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Controls Engineering.
  • Experience working with higher voltage systems, including 15 kV and above.
  • Experience with PLC programming and interface systems such as MMI and SCADA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $110000.00 - $120000.00/yr.
