Job Title: Traveling Engineering Technician
Job Description
We are seeking a Traveling Engineering Technician to perform testing on construction materials, primarily concrete. This role involves conducting slump, density, and moisture testing in both field and laboratory environments. Candidates will receive in-house training by experienced employees and will gradually take on increased responsibilities as their skills develop. This position requires consistent travel for approximately one year, primarily to project sites throughout Texas and Louisiana. Candidates must be local to the Nashville, TN area. All travel-related lodging is fully covered, and a daily per diem is provided for food and incidental expenses.
Responsibilities
- Perform field and laboratory testing of construction materials, including concrete testing for slump, density, and moisture.
- Communicate with Project Managers, engineering technicians, client representatives, contractor representatives, and other stakeholders regarding site conditions, testing requirements, and results.
- Transport material samples with proper identifying documentation to the laboratory for further testing and analysis.
- Tabulate, prepare, and submit written and digital test data and observations for daily reporting to the Project Manager.
- Maintain and clean testing equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
- Assist with scheduling and dispatching technicians to job sites as needed.
- Adhere to strict safety standards at all times.
- Provide clear and accurate documentation of findings.
Qualifications
- Basic understanding of concrete, construction, asphalt, and materials testing is a plus.
- Ability to perform concrete inspection and soil testing.
- Experience with Troxler equipment is advantageous.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong computer skills, including the ability to complete daily digital field reports and send emails.
- Existing certifications, such as ACI Certification, are a plus.
- Previous construction materials testing experience in the field or lab is a plus.
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geoscience, or a related field is preferred.
Work Environment
The position involves traveling 75% of the time for a duration of 12 months, with a 25% premium on local pay. Lodging is covered and booked, and a per diem of $78 per day is provided for meals and incidental expenses. If preferred, candidates may choose alternative lodging arrangements, such as staying in a camper, with reimbursement provided at $200 per day. The role requires adherence to strict safety standards and necessitates maintaining cleanliness of testing equipment, vehicles, and work areas.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $25.00/hr.
