Job Title: Junior Controls Engineer

Job Description

As a Controls Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing quality control systems and ensuring their implementation with all necessary safety features. You will develop and debug PLC and operator interface applications, provide long-term technical support, and assist in the startup and support of controls. Your responsibilities will also include creating technical manuals, supporting service technicians and customers during startup, and developing standards for machine controls and operator interfaces.

Responsibilities

  • Design quality control systems with appropriate safety features.
  • Develop and debug PLC and operator interface applications.
  • Assist in the startup and support of control systems.
  • Maintain cost awareness of different approaches and select the best options.
  • Serve as the primary contact, supporting service technicians and customers during startup.
  • Provide long-term technical support.
  • Create technical manuals and detailed instructions.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining standards for machine controls and operator interfaces.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in Siemens S7 and Allen-Bradley controls and drive systems.
  • Experience with Control-Net and Ethernet network configurations.
  • Strong PLC programming techniques.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work in a team, including collaborating with colleagues in Germany.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Wonderware Intouch visualization and script programming.
  • Knowledge of Profibus and Profinet.
  • Competence in high-level programming languages, especially C.
  • Basic understanding of AutoCAD and/or E3 CAD.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE or BSEET).
  • 0-3 years of experience, with programming or electrical engineering.

Work Environment

Work in an engineering setting with a large panel shop consisting of 18 people, with plans for growth. While the role does not accommodate remote work due to proximity to production, it offers flexible hours, typically from 8-5. Collaboration with other Application Engineers and reporting to Engineers will be a part of the daily routine. The position involves high customer interaction, requiring excellent communication skills. Daily, weekly, and monthly documentation/reporting procedures are essential. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Charlotte, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
