GFT is seeking a Senior Materials Engineer to join our Transportation Team in Lisle, IL ! This role follows a hybrid work model , requiring regular attendance at our Lisle, IL office.

Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The Senior Materials Engineer monitors quality control programs and quality assurance testing performed for major projects or programs. The Senior Materials Engineer also provides required materials documentation of project records and manages material engineering for large, complex projects. This position is supervisory in nature, responsible for leading other project materials engineers and scheduling and coordinating materials engineering sub-consultants. The Senior Materials Engineer is the client liaison with respect to coordination of various aspects of materials engineering requirements. Current potential assignments include a $4 billion, 22-mile corridor widening and reconstruction project and a Quality Assurance Management program.

The candidate must be highly motivated and is expected to have good communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as possess good organizational skills and a willingness to take on new challenges. The candidate should have the ability to apply a common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Materials Coordinator/Quality Assurance Manager on large sized highway and/or bridge reconstruction rehabilitation projects or programs for Illinois Tollway, Cook County, IDOT, or CDOT
  • Report to Project Manager, Program Manager, and/or the Owner’s Representative Management Team to provide engineering support and oversight on various tasks and materials coordination
  • Monitor quality control and quality assurance materials testing and inspection
  • Review QC/QA testing reports
  • Maintain materials documentation including but not limited to delivery tickets, bill of ladings, certifications as per project requirement
  • Review materials submittals and ensure compliance with contract documents and specifications
  • Assist in field inspection and project documentation as needed
  • Preparation of technical reports
  • Development and revision of technical construction or material specifications
  • Additional duties as assigned

Qualifications

What you'll bring to our firm:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, preferably with an emphasis on construction materials
  • Minimum of 10 years’ professional, relevant construction/materials experience
  • Familiar with Illinois Tollway policies and procedures and the IDOT Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction
  • Inspection and testing experience with Concrete, Asphalt, and Soils
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work well and communicate with others in a team environment
  • Organizational skills for fast-paced environment
  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Professional Engineer License
  • Preferred experience includes work on projects for IDOT, Illinois Tollway, CDOT and/or federally funded projects for municipalities or other local agencies
  • Certification in IDOT QC/QA HMA and PCC Levels I and II
  • Experience in project management and/or materials administration
  • Local candidates

Compensation:

  • The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $160,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
