Summary

The T&D System Protection Supervisor of Engineering leads an engineering team specializing in protection settings for transmission and distribution relaying for the APS system. This role is ensures compliance with all NERC/FERC PRC regulatory requirements utilizing Enoserv Powerbase in support of providing PRC RSAW narrative(s) and evidence, along with necessary compliance steps in SigmaFlow and Industrial Defender. This supervisor oversees the management of business unit/division goals, company objectives, project assignments and deliverables. The supervisor is responsible for maintaining budgets, and adhering to established engineering practices. This role also leads engineering design, planning, technical analyses, and ensures the quality and consistency of information used in developing engineering-related business unit strategies. The supervisor establishes priorities for team members for project completion, communicates company policies , ensures operational decisions comply with policies. Additionally, the supervisor actively participates in relevant industry groups and committees, such as EPRI and NATF.

Minimum Requirements
  • A four-year Bachelors degree in engineering or related applied science discipline (see approved list) from an ABET accredited institution, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution or an ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or PE registration in electrical engineering from an ABET accredited institution, plus five (5) years of related engineering and design experience. Approved Engineering degrees: Materials Science/Metallurgy, Physics, Chemistry, Nuclear, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Computer Science, Environmental, Chemical, Structural. A four-year bachelor of Engineering Technology degree is not considered an automatic equivalent for a B.S. degree in Engineering. A review of the degree program curriculum must be completed by the Engineering Career Path Review Board to determine equivalency level.

Preferred Special Skills, Knowledge or Qualification:

  • System Protection engineering experience, knowledge of Enoserv Powerbase, Sigmaflow, Industrial Defender and PRC regulatory requirement reporting.
  • Professional Engineer registration.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience and ability.
  • Possess working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, practices and methods in specific engineering discipline and in-depth technical knowledge of transmission, distribution, and/or generation engineering, operations, and maintenance.
  • Strong process improvement and business focus. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Internet.
Major Accountabilities

1) Leads an engineering services team specializing in protection settings for transmission and distribution relaying for the APS system to ensure compliance with all NERC/FERC PRC regulatory requirements utilizing Enoserv Powerbase in support of providing PRC RSAW narrative(s) and evidence, along with necessary compliance steps in SigmaFlow and Industrial Defender.; Oversees the management of business unit/division goals, company objectives, project assignments, and deliverables. Is responsible for maintaining budgets and adhering to established engineering practices.

2) Provide direction, establish priorities, and guidance to engineers in multiple areas for project completion; which may include engineering design, planning, technical analyses, overseeing methodologies, verifying conclusions, and ensure the quality and consistency of information used in engineering-related business unit strategies; provide consultation and technical expertise to other groups to resolve complex issues.

3) Select and develop a high performing, multi-disciplined team through effective coaching, performance feedback, recognition, training and developmental opportunities.

4) Provide resource allocation for a multi-functional, single discipline organization to ensure timely and competent resolution of operational technical issues.

5) Provide results of analysis to executive management for use in strategic planning.

6) Communicates company policies, information, and requirements to staff and ensures operational decisions comply with policies. Implement and support company policies by functioning as the intermediary between management and frontline employees.

7) Develop department budgets and manage department expenditures within approved limits.

8) Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new and changing processes, technologies or regulations that may impact work of team.

9) Provide technical guidance and support to ensure the highest quality project is produced; provides technical direction to ensure the section performs effectively according to sound engineering principles, practices, procedural standards and regulatory requirements.

10) Effectively interfaces with customers and other departments to ensure project objectives are achieved and costs contained within budget. Actively participates in relevant industry groups and committees, such as EPRI and NATF.
